lemmonhead L I am looking for a new chain and on Cambria I see they have 2 different Shimano 8 speed chains a HG-91 and an IG-90, I see that there is a slight difference in width but what else is the difference. I am currently running an Shimano 737 8 speed cassette, what would you suggest for a chain, are these two chains good or is a SRAM PG-68 better. The IG chain is wider and meant for 6,7,8 speed drive trains. The HG rides better in my opinion. But the Sram is much better than the last two. Plus it will come with a power link.. you can remove and install the chain faster and easier. Wyrm #3 · Mar 28, 2006

IMO, the shimano chains with the mushroomed pins are much better than the sram, and will last much longer without breaking. Are you basing your opinion of the shimano chains on their recent chains with these new features, or the old stuff from more than 5 years ago? #4 · Mar 28, 2006 I'm currently running a Shimano chain on my FR bike. Not too shabby. But in the past I didn't like the them. Getting them on and off the bike was a huge thing for me. Now I just use the power link. #5 · Mar 28, 2006 I'm running Pc 58's & 68's on the same 8 spd cassette's. Even some of the older scm80's and 91's, although my stock on these 2 have dried up. Anyways, many years used without a problem and they run smooth. Nothing against Shimano chains at all, and as Jayem has mentioned, they have improved over older versions. #6 · Apr 3, 2006 I'm running an HG-70 with the same Deore XT-737 cassette and getting really good shifting performance. I think the HG-91 chain is the next level up. I did try the IG-70 chain with the same cassette and shifting was poor compared with the HG-70 chain. So go for the HG-91 IMO. I think the HG-93 and HG-73 are for a 9 speed cassette. I'm sure someone will correct me here if need be. Insert Quotes Post Reply
