I have a PT 3/8 tap that I always use for tapping pipe threads. Can I use the PT 3/8 tap to make the 3/8 NPT internal threads? The 3/8 NPT is an American taper pipe thread. It is different from a taper pipe thread PT 3/8 which is normal in Japan. You cannot use the PT 3/8 for making the 3/8 NPT thread. The thread angle and the number of threads per inch are different betwen them. Please refer to the explanation on the attached PDF file for more details.
