DiscussionPAU Sukhoi SU 26m 50cc - 60cc I am interested in buying the PAU Sukhoi kit. Does anyone have any experience with it? How does it fly vs. the Extras and Edges? (Primarily for IMAC, not extreme 3D) Does the 2 piece landing gear hold up well? Would a DLE 55RA be enough motor? or would I need the DLE 61? I know the design is a few years old.... is the kit quality. etc. up to the standards of the recent designs? Are there any considerations I should be aware of if I order the kit? Thanks for any help. I absolutely loved my PAU Sukhoi! The PAU Sukhoi is probably the closest representation of it's full-scale counterpart that is available to modelers. With this in mind it flies like a, well.....Sukhoi! It performs true, axial rolls and tumbles with the best of them! Being a round-cowl aircraft, it does require a bit of power and throttle-management on final and landing (a bit different than most Edge's, Extra's and any other airframe that has been morphed from scale in order to minimize any inherent design characteristics of the full-size). I found the Sukhoi to be happy with a more forward CG, but was easily attainable without adding any "dead" weight by planning my component install. I flew mine with a DA-50 and it had plenty of power for spirited vertical performance. Keep in mind, this plane was designed around the DA-50 and there are many, more powerful (and lighter) engines available today, so if you choose to use a lightweight powerhouse, be prepared to plan your component install accordingly. The two-piece landing gear is plenty adequate for most, but has proven to be an issue for some. This is not a design flaw or weakness, it simply had to be this way in order to accommodate market demand for the option to use cans/tuned pipes. Overall, this plane is one sexy-looking beast that always draws comments at the field and it is HUGE for a 50cc class airplane. Hope that info. helps a bit! Regards, Astro

I enjoy mine. I respect Herve @ PAU to offer a plane that fly's and resembles full scale. When you build it you will find how large it is and it fly's great also. The gear is fine if your soft on the feet. I run a 61 with a can and believe your 55 will be fine. I cant comment on the IMAC capabilities but others will for sure. There are other airframes that come and go but the Sukhoi is a keeper. One for the collection...

I just sold mine to a friend of mine so he can fly Basic in IMAC. I practiced Sporsman with it all the time. I had a da-60 in mine and it had unlimited vertical. It tracks straight and snaps well. I can also fit it in my truck so I didn't have to drag the trailer every time I wanted to go flying. I recommend this plane for the lower classes of IMAC. I know that a person who practices will do well with it. Even against larger planes.

What size truck? I've been on the fence thinking it might not fit my 6.5' Silverado. I've got other 50cc planes diagonal in there. How tall is this? I use a bed cover also Quote:

I have a 2013 Silverado. 6.5 bed. It fit in diagonal with the tail surfaces attached. I have a cab high cap in mine so I never paid attention to the height.

Well..... what if I'm not so "soft on the feet"?? Is the gear repairable? Does PAU offer replacement gear legs? I'm very concerned that I will "total" the airframe by wiping out the gear... I'm not sure I should trust my landings.... but I really LOVE the airplane!!

DK I would move on to another airframe that has a full gear if your worried about your landings. The gear is carbon and will break the fuse before it breaks itself. Its such a large round cowl that it needs a little speed on landings vs a extra or edge. My 2 cents Images View all Images in thread

There is no way to have a one piece landing gear on this plane and still have a canister tunnel. If no canister is used, you can easily make an aluminum gear joiner straddling the canister tunnel. We do have replacement gears (and all other emplacement parts).
