Doi Tung is a mountain in the northern part of Chiang Rai Province, at the northernmost tip of Thailand.

By bus[edit]
Bus from Muang Chiang Rai - Mae Sai. 35bt each way. Get off at Ban Huay Krai. Purple or blue minibus/pickup to the bus station
Get around[edit]
The main area of shops, royal villa, gardens and hall of inspiration are close and easy to see in about 4 hours but phra that doi tung is about 9km away and there is no transport to get there so you have to walk which makes it a difficult hike for the day.

Mae Fah Luang Garden
Doi Tung Royal Villa - final residence of the Princess Mother (mother of King Bhumibol), located at kilometre 12 on highway 1149, to the west of highway 1. This magnificent villa was built on the mountain overlooking the surrounding hills and valleys in a unique mix of Swiss and Lanna architectural styles.
Doi Tung Zoo
Mae Fah Luang Gardens is a botanical park located on the slopes below the royal villa. Flowers and plants grow among rock formations. There is also a cafe where you can enjoy your beverage with a beautiful view of the mountains. You can also buy organic tea leaves from here.
Wat Phra That Doi Tung. Dating to the 10th century, this temple has a stupa reputed to contain the Buddha's collarbone, making it a major site of pilgrimage. Located atop Doi Tung itself at an altitude of nearly 2000 meters, it probably has the most fantastic view of all temples in Thailand.

Skywalk and Zipline. in the garden (Requires buying a ticket for the garden) there is a canopy walk (a few bridges among the tree tops) and 3 short zip lines.

Food at the cafeteria and shops is somewhat expensive so if you want a bit cheaper day then pack your own lunch. There is a day market down the road a few hundred meters where you can get cheaper food etc.
