Deceased Personal Pets

MCAS does not offer pickup for personal pets, but the following resources are available for end-of-life services and cremation.

• Oregon Humane Society: End-of-life services, including euthanasia and cremation fees vary from $14 - $231. If euthanasia services are needed in addition to cremation services please call (503) 285-7722 to schedule an appointment.
• Dove Lewis: Compassionate Euthanasia is available, appointments are needed which can be made through dovelewis.org. Financial Aid is available for qualifying individuals, to apply for financial aid visit the website.
• Family Animal Services: Communal cremation services range from $40 to $100 depending on your animal's weight. With a communal cremation your pets ashes will not be returned.

Deceased Animals and Wildlife on Public Property

Multnomah County Animal Control Officers will continue to respond to reports of decease cats, dogs, and large wildlife in public areas. If in a private area, the pet will need to be moved to the public right of way for pickup.

MCAS is unable to pick up small wildlife. If a resident encounters deceased wildlife, they may follow these steps for disposal:

To safely handle and dispose of the carcass

• Wear gloves and a facemask as needed
• Use a shovel or another tool to place the animal in a bag
• Place the bag in two other sealable bags
• Place the triple-bagged and sealed carcass into the garbage
  • Alternatively, deceased animals may be triple-bagged and brought to a Metro Transfer Station for a fee.
  • Contact Metro for size limitations and more information.

Examples of Small Wildlife Officers Are Unable to Pickup

• Beavers
• Birds - If you find a dead bird and suspect that it died of a disease, reports may be submitted to Multnomah County Vector Control or the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW). Otherwise, Dead birds may be disposed of in the same manner as other wildlife.
• Chickens and Roosters
• Crows
• Ducks
• Geese
• Hawks
• Hedgehogs

• Opossums
• Otters
• Owls
• Pigeons
• Rabbits
• Racoons
• Rodents (Rats, Mice, Voles)
• Skunks
• Squirrels
