9 December, 201411 yr Random questions. My current C30 D5 has a Polestar remap.   I've been looking to get the DPF deleted (so outside retained but interior knocked out). I've been told that if I get this done the Polestar remap would have to be deleted and I'd need a new remap as the Polestar one works with the DPF.   Is this true? Is there no way of keeping the Polestar map?   This new map along with the DPF delete is more powerful: (225bhp & 480nm torque) Wouldn't this cause more strain on the car?  CarlizzleFoSho Collaborator

Yes, things wear out quicker with remaps.

It will have been mapped to take the DPF into consideration. I'm no expert but with the difference in back pressure and the associated emission sensors things will throw a fit.

There is no good reason to remove the DPF.

Save people's health and pass an MOT....Keep the DPF. It's there for a reason and regulations are getting tougher so if it doesn't fail this year, it will do soon.

If you insist on doing it, then you'd usually have to get a new map, or at least get the map altered to suit the DPF delete as it expects it to be there and who knows what would happen if it tried to regen with a hollow pipe.

Only reason I'm considering getting the DPF delete is because the internet has made me worry.

My job has gone from being 35miles away to now 15 miles away and it's all country roads. so 30 miles a day of country roads. From what people seem to be saying that'd kill the DPF?

I just don't want to risk that happening.. :/

Any way of monitoring it properly? Maybe with Torque or similar?

More I read of DPFs, the more I think it's a complicated scare mongering to get people to spend money. Yes, DPFs do block, but often, supporting items can fail, sensors, rubber hoses get holed etc... Also Been finding that some cats and DPFs are now produced as a single canister unit!

Quite a lot of discussion around the net for various makes...

Another vote for not removing the DPF here, not a fan of the idea - sorry.

I can't see why 30 miles a day would cause any harm, that's what I do and haven't had any ill effects. If the engine gets warm (which surely it will with your added Polestar) then can't see why it wouldn't be OK.

Agree though that there is a lot of scaremongering out there, most of which I don't think is correct. Of course I am not claiming to be an expert, just chipping in with my 2p :)

No Thanks guys, I appreciate seeing another side to the DPF malarky! This is honestly the first time I've heard something vaguely positive about it.

It's just because I don't use the motorway every day of the week and as I said my journey to work is only country roads it's just constantly in the back of my head!

My car has quite high miles on it, but there's other C30 d5's (with DPF) that have done close to 200,000's and never had the DPF go wrong.

Wish I'd never Google'd any of this in all honesty! It's only made me more concerned than anything else. Just as a note, I don't drive like a boy racer or like miss daisy. However it does get the occasional boot when the back roads are clear. I don't like the idea of taking it out either, but I 'spose if it ever went wrong I would most likely get it taken out as the cost to replace one seems absurd.

Sorry - I didn't mean to come across critising your driving style. I was just thinking that as you have a Polestar map, you might be more tempted to use it :P

Country roads will be better surely as you're more likely to be revving and using gears getting the exhaust nice and hot.

Motorway cars just sit at low RPM not getting very hot.

Ahh OK, I heard in a few places that cars with older DPF's (mine's 2009) need to sit at constant revs (preferably motorway) as this helps the regen process instead of revs that fluctuate (town or country road driving).

This could just be another load of DPF crazies shi**ing me up about something that is less of an issue than people make out!

If your car is showing no problems in the way it is being used,

best not worry about them.

Or think of more expense where there is none.

if your 5 year old car does end up needing a Replacement DPF, that might be the time to consider doing away with it.

Or not if affordable replacement ones are available.

& they are now.

Strictly from a software point of view, you can use the remap that you currently have however you will need the DPF structure removed from the software or you will end up with limp mode due to the pressure difference in the exhaust.

You can simply ask your tuner to remove the DPF filter structure from the software to allow for physical removal of the hardware. If you tuner is unable you will need to find a file writer to remove the DPF structure from the ECU.

If you need any further advise please feel free to let us know.

Kind Regards Matt @ Super Nova Tuning

using the correct diesel i.e  bp, shell etc alot of people get problems using supermarket fuel due to its low cetane rating it cant burn the soot particles off resulting in dpf getting blocked. take your car for a motorway blast for about half an hour so the exhaust can get hott enough to allow a regen

A common misconception is that high revs and 'driving like you've stolen it' is better for the DPF. All this does is create more soot!

Passive regeneration (this is where the DPF burns off the soot using the heat generated through normal daily driving) is far more beneficial. Here there are no regens (high RPM's, increased fuel consumption etc.), the DPF just does it's thing without any intervention.

Only when passive regeneration isn't possible (short journey's etc.) does the need for an active regeneration occur. This is when the car takes steps to clear the DPF such as injecting more fuel and increasing the RPM's to create more heat.

If passive regenerating isn't possible and the driving conditions don't allow an active regeneration to complete only then do you see a warning light on the dash. This is the cars way of telling you it needs your help, it can't clear the DPF by itself.

Even after clearing the DPF light through holding a constant speed and RPM you may never see it again. A one-off is just that, seeing the light repeatedly is a sign that your driving isn't suited to a DPF equipped diesel or there is a fault.

Don't loose sleep over a fully functioning DPF and don't remove it if there is no need to.

Well explained in laymen's terms! No you're right, there's no need to fork out for something that isn't causing a problem. Your explanation has helped though as part of the problem is correctly understand how the DPF works and what causes it to go wrong.

I for one will never understand why mum's, who literally pick their kids up from school and nip to the shops, why on Earth they need a diesel?! Popped into the Seat showroom at the weekend as my friend was after a Leon. Overheard a salesman pretty much begging this person not to buy a diesel.

"How many miles do you do to require a diesel?"

"About 4,000 a year I just like diesels."

"Have you considered a petrol? With your mileage it could cause problems down the line and it costs you more to run than a petrol."

"I want a diesel though."

*Sigh* If I did that mileage I'd get the goddamn Cupra.

Correct :P I just can't get over how much it pulls even past 3k revs. I'd never dream of allowing a diesel past 3k as you'd get nothing more out of it other than it complaining.

It's really bizarre but super fun. I still can't over the size of the steering wheel though, honestly it's huge. Not quite sure what Volvo were thinking but it's along the lines of the width of that trophy the women get at Wimbledon.

It's great fun :) Loved my little Fabia VRS Diesel to bits, but this is a nice step up. Sitting so low in it it really does feel like a proper coupe. Honestly you wouldn't think you're in a Volvo!

  • Coolant change at 10 years? Skoda Fabia Mk3 (2014-2021)

    Coolant change at 10 years?

cheepskatebob · 6 hours ago6 hr Hello My 2016 Fabia 3, 110PS 1.2 petrol, is coming up for 10 years old in June. It has 66k on the clock and has been serviced correctly by Skoda dealer and local garage. It has never had the coolant changed and I am wondering if this should be done at the next major service? It doesn't seem to come up on any of the service schedules I have found for the car but it seems odd that the coolant doesn't need changing after all this time.

    Upgrade oil cooler

Lykkegaard76 · 28 December, 20232 yr Hello All   Have any of you upgraded your engine oil cooler? Would very much appreciate advice on oil cooler type and placement.    The issue I have is that my skoda over heat when towing my caravan. Only a problem in hot weather and steep terrain.    My skoda is a 4x4 190 2.0 TDI L&K DSG. Car is chipped to 225Hp.    During last vacation I noticed oil temp. at 138C and water temp. 115-120C.    I have looked in many forums but no apparent solutions.

  • Turning the screen off Turning the screen off Skoda Superb Mk4 (2023 > )

    Turning the screen off

Pessimal · 11 hours ago11 hr Simple question, but I'm going to guess that it isn't a simple answer! Is there a way to turn the main screen off when driving (esp at night for less distraction) While I would prefer the whole screen off, I'd settle for the main part to be off, and the status bar at the top to be on. I have tried pressing the on/off button, and yes that does "blank" most of the screen, but it leaves it grey rather than black, and thus quite alot of light bleed. Anyone shed (less) light on this? Thanks

    Sos

Sickpillow · 8 November, 20258 Nov Hi all, Had a 19 plate Kamiq for a year and a bit now and in the last year the SOS light comes on every time. At first it came on then would go off, now its just consistently on. Were aware it doesn't really have much function unless we roll the car etc, but is there a fix for this that doesn't involve a hefty bill from skoda? Or is it a case of bite on a piece of wood and just take it from the stealership?
