Dr. Tran with her patients
Mai-Khanh Tran, MD. Harvard AB '87, Dartmouth/Brown MD '92.
Dr. Tran is a pediatrician who has been practicing for over 25 years in Little Saigon, Southern California. She is a founding member and current Medical Director of Damien The Leper Society in Florida and Friends of the Lepers in Southern California, two organizations dedicated to the eradication of leprosy, particularly in Vietnam. Dr. Tran has participated in over 50 medical missions around the world, many of which she organized and led. Last year, she chaired the Media Committee for Vietnamese Americans for Hillary, the first ever attempt at voters' outreach in the Vietnamese community nationwide. As the chairperson, she traveled and volunteered for the campaign in Nevada and Florida.
Dr. Tran is just beginning to get involved in local politics because she "can't stand to see what is happening to this country." As a pediatrician, an educator, a mother, a woman, a minority, she feels that it is her duty to stand up to the Trump administration's harmful policies. In particular, she said, "As a child of the Operation Babylift in 1975, I wept when I saw the picture of the Syrian boy. Like him, I felt lost and scared. Unlike him, I was carried into this country by American soldiers. Why is he any less deserving?"
