Moderna1 M Hope I can get some advice. a few week ago did a full service the egr light had been on for some time before, and was now told any lights on and would not pass an MOT,so the valve was changed and now the engine is running really bad and not a nice start first thing ( chugging) now I don’t know what to do? can you clean the 2 pipes either side? i bought the valve from eBay which I thought was from Germany but now see it came from China. so would it be a good idea to take the whole thing off and clean out all the carbon buildup. or take the car to a Vw garage and do a checkup any advice please. #1 · May 6, 2018 Hope I can get some advice. a few week ago did a full service the egr light had been on for some time before, and was now told any lights on and would not pass an MOT,so the valve was changed and now the engine is running really bad and not a nice start first thing ( chugging) now I don’t know what to do? can you clean the 2 pipes either side? i bought the valve from eBay which I thought was from Germany but now see it came from China. so would it be a good idea to take the whole thing off and clean out all the carbon buildup. or take the car to a Vw garage and do a checkup any advice please. EGR replacement must be OEM as copies give bad results. There is a shortage of EGR valves on newer models. #3 · May 6, 2018 A holed blank should reduce the build up once clean . #4 · May 7, 2018 Thank you Keith and gazwould, today I think I will take the egr valve and pipes and clean with egr spray cleaner,do you think it will be ok to buy a secondhand OEM,with the pipes and fit,and I also heard that the engine will need re callebrating? #5 · May 7, 2018 Fitting a second hand OEM EGR might be ok providing the part numbers are the same. It will need cleaning to make sure before fitting. As with all second hand parts it pot luck if they work correctly. #6 · May 7, 2018 Whatever you fit, the engine ECU will need adapting to the replacement valve, assuming it's an electric valve with about 5 wires. #7 · May 7, 2018 Egr valve Hello Peter, and thanks what do you mean by adapting? Is this something I can do myself, and yes it's an electric valve. thanks derek 0 Reply #8 · May 7, 2018 Thanks Keith, you’re right but I think it’s worth taking the chance, valve and both pipes for £30 lots of cleaning to do,is there a good and easy way to clean the carbon all out. thanks #9 · May 7, 2018 There is no EGR light, for the engine there is an emissions malfunction light and an EPC (electronic performance control) light, a faulty EGR valve tends to illuminate both of these. A new EGR valve MUST be adapted to the engine ECU by deleting the learnt values in adaption 10 and then adapted in basic settings 074 and tested in 075 or it WILL burn out in a very short time and this is not covered by warranties because the manufacturers and suppliers are well aware of the mistake of not adapting it. Also when fittings anew EGR valve it is highly advisable to remove and clean both sides of the throttle body and make sure the EGR outlet pipe is not blocked. After this the throttle body MUST be realigned in basic settings 060. Insert Quotes Post Reply
