Emergency Medical Services Bureau

The Bureau of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in the Concord Fire Department provides prehospital emergency medical services to the residents and visitors of the Capitol City of New Hampshire. Since 1980, The Concord Fire Department has provided this service at the Advanced Life Support (ALS) level; our ambulances are currently staffed with either 1 Firefighter/Paramedic and one Firefighter/EMT (Basic) or Firefighter/EMT (Advanced) members of our staff. Concord was one of the first fire-based services north of Boston to provide this advanced level of care.

The EMS Bureau is administrated by the Concord Fire Department EMS Officer/Captain who is in charge of the day-to-day managerial activities related to the Bureau, to include HIPAA Compliance and other regulation and budgetary oversight. In addition, a Paramedic Lieutenant (Medic 1) assigned to the Bureau is responsible for conducting the continuing EMS Training and Education of our Firefighter/EMT’s, Quality Assurance, and field EMS Supervision/Support. Many of our staff Firefighter/Paramedics is chosen by area EMT/Paramedic schools and colleges as site Preceptors for student EMT’s and Paramedics who are required to obtain many hours of “ride time” for skills needed toward National EMS certification.

With our average EMS call volume increasing annually, we continually strive to provide state-of-the-art care to those who visit or reside in New Hampshire’s Capitol City. Emergency Medicine in the prehospital environment presents unique and challenging circumstances for our members. Guided by our professionalism and the ethical principles of our core values (Integrity, Courage, Dedication and Compassion), the Firefighter/Paramedics and EMT’s of the Concord Fire Department are here 24/7/365 to meet the needs of those whom we are proud to serve.
