The Euro 2020 final will forever be a sore subject for England fans.

Last summer was certainly one to remember for the Three Lions and their supporters, but it ultimately ended in heartbreak.

England reached their first final in a major international tournament since 1966 by beating Germany, Ukraine and Denmark in the knockout stage.

Gareth Southgate’s side even took the lead against Italy in the final itself at Wembley Stadium through Luke Shaw in just the second minute of play.

But England retreated into their shell after that and Leonardo Bonucci deservedly equalised for the Azzurri in the second half.

Neither side could find a second goal, which saw the match decided by the lottery that is a penalty shootout – and Italy eventually prevailed.

Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka all missed from 12 yards, which placed the trophy in the hands of Giorgio Chiellini.

The ex-Italian captain was an absolute monster at the back throughout Euro 2020 and also saved his country in the final with the most cynical of fouls.

In the final minute of normal time at Wembley, the seasoned veteran stopped a dangerous counterattack by brutally dragging Arsenal starlet Bukayo Saka to the ground by his shirt collar.

Chiellini was booked for his actions and it’s safe to say there was uproar among England fans over the challenge.

Because there was so much controversy surrounding the incident, one Italy fan decided to rub salt in the wounds by paying homage to it in the form of a tattoo.

Even if you’re an England fan, you have to admit that is fantastic. As football-related tattoos go, that might just be the best we’ve ever seen.

It’s a masterpiece, a petty masterpiece.

Chiellini will not feature for Italy when they come face-to-face with England in the UEFA Nations League on Saturday evening.

The 37-year-old has retired from international duty following the Azzurri’s 3-0 defeat to Argentina in Finalissima at the very start of the month.
