seafun S We had our first ESP experience with our 2002 C320 (82,000 miles) going "limp" on the road. Pulled out into traffic, ESP light came on, car wouldn't accelerate....felt like I had four flat tires. Independent tech put it on a scope and diagnosed a failure of the yaw rate sensor for a cool $1,000. We drive this vehicle about 3,000 miles/year whether we need to or not, so I am struggling to understand if we really need to invest in this repair. Can anyone educate me on the importance/safety of this repair and whether or not we can disconnect/turn off the ESP feature on this vehicle. Thanks. #1 · Apr 17, 2017 We had our first ESP experience with our 2002 C320 (82,000 miles) going "limp" on the road. If it is the yaw rate sensor, there's no way this is a $1,000 repair. The part is $300: Sensor | Genuine Mercedes-Benz | 006-542-69-18 : Mercedes-Benz Parts - Genuine OEM | MBOEMParts.com Replacement might be a 1 hour job if you're really low and are large and don;t fit well into the trunk: http://benzbits.com/w203/YawSensor.pdf #3 · Apr 18, 2017 Thank you for your reply and I will try to get the codes from the tech. He did list the part number: 0009055203. According to the web site you referenced that price is $521.70. #4 · Apr 19, 2017 That's the Turn Rate sensor, which detects left/right movement. The Yaw Rate Sensors (a.k.a. Lateral Acceleration Sensor) detects front/back movement. Get the codes and then we'll know. Oh, and you might also look for these as used parts - even cheaper. #5 · Apr 21, 2017 Fault codes Here are the fault codes as determined by MB dealer: c1120-004 c1120-016 They recommend replacement of the yaw rate sensor for $930 + labor. #6 · Apr 22, 2017 C1120 is a problem with the Yaw Rate Sensor. It can be a bad sensor, or a bad wiring connection. Check the voltage at the connector - Brown/Violet is ground, Black/Violate is positive. You should have 4.75-5.25 volts. if that's good, then I'd replace the sensor. #9 · Feb 26, 2022 Hello Rudeney I am having the same issues on my w203 and each time I replace the YRS it would work for a while and then start engaging the brakes on it own again. I was wondering if it could be a known wiring issue and from where should I start inspecting. I ll measure the voltage as well can this be done with the sensor unplugged or I have to find a way to do it with the sensor on ? 0 Reply #7 · Apr 25, 2017 Based on the fault codes, is part #0009055203 still the correct part for a yaw rate sensor? This is a wagon....is the part located in the engine compartment or in the rear? Thanks. #8 · Apr 26, 2017 Part number 0009055203 is for the Turn Rate Sensor. Your error indicates a problem with the Yaw Rate sensor which is 0065426918. I'm pretty sure it's in the same place on the wagon as the sedan - in front of the spare tire. #10 · Feb 27, 2022 Are you certain that it's the yaw rate sensor causing the fault? Have you pulled codes from the ESP module? #11 · Feb 28, 2022 well here is the list of the usual errors but I can rescan again and get a fresh one, forgot to mention that last time I decided to replace the ABS controller connected to the ABS pump, Same thing all was going fine for few month and then brakes engaging again on its own. I will scan it again anyway and get you the most recent codes Font Material property Screenshot Number Parallel #12 · Mar 2, 2022 Could it be a wiring problem between the sensor and the ESP control module? Rodents? A loose clip allowing the wire to abrade or bind? #14 · Mar 17, 2022 Rodney, hey David from Nacogdoches here waving a hand ! (Been too long !) Uh, could this be an ABS wheel sensor issue ? When mine were going S L O W L Y bad Id get sudden BAS activation - 'one wheel going flat" no warning. Sometimes Id get a code, sometimes not. Problem left once all 4 ABS sensors replaced. Came back once, got the Yaw sensor code & grabbed a wrecking yard unit. BAS sudden braking all gone....PTL. David in Texas 0 Reply #13 · Mar 15, 2022 I don't know really, I will try to measure the voltage for the YAW and see if there is a fluctuation #15 · Mar 17, 2022 Hi David! Hope you are doing well! In this case, i think it's the yaw rate (a.k.a. lateral acceleration) sensor that's the culprit. Insert Quotes Post Reply
