(I drive a C240 Avantgarde W203 2001 automatic) My car has developed a pretty dangerous fault where I'm driving along in good conditions and suddenly the brakes activate whilst my foot is on the accelerator! I've looked into it and taken it to my mechanic to run the diagnostics and have determined that it is a faulty Yaw Rate Sensor. I've also looked into replacing it and the cost of a new Mercedes branded part was £475, plus diagnostic and labour. I have opened the boot and removed the sensor to get a look at the part number so will get a suitable replacement myself but I cannot find any new ones so I'll have to go for a refurbished one circa £105 on Ebay. At the moment If I absolutely have to drive I turn the ESP function off from the ESP switch on the dash before driving, the yellow triangle light appears and the car seems to work fine as a short term fix. However the ABS has now started to operate when I use the brakes, again in good conditions. My questions are; - Can I simply remove the sensor altogether or unplug the connector from it? (the manual says you should not do this but I have driven other cars without ESP and am perfectly comfortable without it). - Has anyone else experienced this problem and used a refurbished part? Has this solved the problem? - Can anyone recommend a reputable parts supplier where I can get this part ? #A 002 542 94 18. - In one of my photos you can see a blue plastic hub beside the yaw rate sensor, it has 3 connectors plugged into it, but it has 4 sockets, is something missing? Many thanks, Sal.

My yaw sensor has gone in my 2001 c220 and had the same symptoms apart from mine was almost £600 from the dealer and the cheapest I can find is £150. When you rang the dealer did you ask if it had been super seeded by another part number? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk OP OP SSal76

He wouldn't have asked if the part was superceded. Did you resolve your problem in the end with a replacement sensor ? was it new/refurb/used? Have you had any other probs with your other systems? ABS BAS etc? thanks, Sal. G

I’ll try finding the website that shows all the models that use the part number I mentioned in the previous comment. I haven’t purchased it yet as it only had its MOT this week and if the list was too big I wouldn’t of done the work but the only advisory was a n/s/f suspension arm so I replaced both. I know that a faulty brake pedal switch can also throw people off but in my case a new one from the main dealer didn’t sort it so the I will be purchasing a replacement part. I also checked on www.mbspecialist.com which shows that my sensor has been superseded 3 times and comes up with the same part number; 000 905 52 03. Just need to find one now. I'm also inquiring directly with MB to see what their tech department says. Many thanks, Sal. OP OP S

Joined May 19, 2019 Messages 4 Location London Car Mercedes C240 Avantgarde 2001 Update. So then I got myself a refurbished Yaw Rate Sensor from a trader on ebay. It came with a 12 month warranty and cost £145. I was able to fit it myself (quite easy really) and have driven locally (30mph) for about 10 miles and it seems to have done the trick.
