Is the Volkswagen Caddy a good car?

The Volkswagen comes in a variety of shapes and sizes to suite almost any requirement from an individual or business. For these reasons and its reliability, we consider the Volkswagen Caddy to be a good car.

Who is the Volkswagen Caddy a good car for?

The Volkswagen Caddy is a good car for any individual or business looking for either a people carrier or panel van. While businesses might consider the Caddy crew bus, panel van or Maxi for transportation use, families will more than pleased with the Trendline and Alltrack derivatives on offer.

Is the Volkswagen Caddy a good first car?

With its ample safety features and compact body, the Volkswagen Caddy is a great first car, especially for those needing the extra space. For added safety we recommend the optional park distance control and reverse camera for those tight parking spaces.

Is the Volkswagen Caddy a good family car?

Not only will the Caddy offer ample comfort and space for five occupants, customers can optionally specify seven seats on the Trendline and Alltrack models should they require it. In the five seat configuration, the Volkswagen Caddy offers 750-litres of luggage space without encrouching on the comfort of the rear occupants.

Is there a Hybrid Volkswagen Caddy?

The current and fourth-generation Volkswagen Caddy offers a range of petrol and diesel motors only. In a recent press-release from Volkswagen South Africa, it has been confirmed that the upcoming, fith-generation, Caddy will be motivated by a petrol and diesel motor only. However, we could expect mild-hybrid or hybrid versions to be introduced at a later stage.

What’s it like to drive?

Reviewer's opinion

The VW Caddy name has a special place in all of our hearts. Say Caddy and people immediately think of the small, compact little bakkie that served them so well. What we don't think of is the latest shape with its large cabin and enclosed back end. The face-lifted VW Caddy is better looking than before and has an even better interior. It also has a drive to match!

Exterior

Interior

What is the Volkswagen Caddy like inside?

While by today's standards the interior on the fourth-generation Volkswagen Caddy seems slightly dated, it remains ergonomic. While you will find harder plastic surfaces throughout the cabin, you do get the sense that everything was constructed with quality and durability in mind. We can, however, expect a major styling update on the interior, with the introduction of the fith-generation model, with more standard technology and comfort features.

Style

When we look at the difference between the exteriors of the third- and fourth-generation Caddy, the overall design didn't change much, but then again, if it isn't broke, why fix it. Volkswagen focussed on the front bumper and grille design and updated the headlamps and taillamps to match the new design language of the German automaker. The interior styling is where most of the magic happened with the styling update as the automaker added a variety of new technology and equipment such as the multifunction steering wheel to go along with it.
