in AWS Certification

Exam update: AWS Certified CloudOps Engineer - Associate (formerly known as AWS Certified SysOps Administrator - Associate)

The AWS Certified SysOps Administrator - Associate is being updated under a new name: AWS Certified CloudOps Engineer - Associate. The update, including the name change, aligns with the latest industry skills, knowledge, and best practices for individuals responsible for maintaining and operation workloads on AWS.

Key dates

• September 9, 2025: Registration for AWS Certified CloudOps Engineer - Associate (SOA-C03) opens. SOA-C03 exam guide and exam prep resources available.
• September 29, 2025: Last day to take AWS Certified SysOps Administrator - Associate (SOA-C02) exam
• September 30, 2025: First day to take AWS Certified CloudOps Engineer - Associate (SOA-C03) exam

Overview of AWS Certified CloudOps Engineer - Associate

Exam duration and format

Exam duration: 130 minutes

Exam format: 65 questions; either multiple choice or multiple response

Cost

150 USD. Visit Exam pricing for additional cost information, including foreign exchange rates

Intended candidate

Individuals with ~1 year of experience deploying, managing, and operating workloads on AWS

Candidate role examples: Cloud Operations Specialist, Cloud Support Engineer, Cloud Consultant, Migration Specialist, and Cloud Systems Integration Engineer, CloudOps Engineer

Testing options and languages offered

Testing options: Pearson VUE testing center or online proctored exam

Languages offered: English, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified Chinese

Recertification options

Recertification options: Individuals who have an active AWS Certified SysOps Administrator - Associate can continue to recertify by retaking the exam through September 29, 2025. Once the exam is retired, we encourage you to pursue the AWS Certified CloudOps Engineer - Associate as a way to showcase your cloud skills and knowledge in an operations role.

Individuals with an active AWS Certified SysOps Administrator - Associate or an active AWS Certified CloudOps Engineer - Associate can recertify by upgrading to the AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional.
