F100 or F6?
attractive current [deleted] says:which of these two film camera to buy? F100 (300€) with two good lenses or F6 (700€) with the 50mm f 1.8? 4:36AM, 17 August 2009 PST (permalink) |
| | olveres says:Depends how much you're willing to spend? ages ago (permalink) |
| | flipperkoning says:i think the f100 is good enough and you can spend the $400 on film and development. ages ago (permalink) |
| | MrDAT says:What are these "good lenses"? ages ago (permalink) |
| | Bob Harrington says: How about a used F5? I have and still use my F100 and love it. It is probably one of the best affordable film SLR's ever made. |
| | fotosniper says:I agree, F100 or f5 the thing is with film the bodies are not so important. i say f100 + good glass. ages ago (permalink) |
attractive current [deleted] says:@MrDAT (aka Sgt Dat) good lens? the 20 2.8 and the 85 f1.8 probably.. F5: i'm sure that is a great camera, but if I've to buy a 'pro'-body i prefer the F6 ages ago (permalink)
| | delta2864 says:Guess F6 is the"last of the Detroit V-8s" .I would say F100 unless you are looking for the latest features or extreme backwards compatibility. (which I would) a Nikon upgraded F5 F6 is tempting. Shoot all the F mount glass.F100 is barely an F, but trust me it will do. ages ago (permalink) |
| | abbilder says:the F6 is may be a little bit better build, a little faster and has a better AF, although nothing compared to D300/D700/D3-AF. And the F6 uses some special batteries while F100 uses normal AA bateries. Get the F100 and use the rest of your money for bettter/more lenses. ages ago (permalink) |
| | flipperkoning says:if you only uses af-d or af-s lenses, you could also look at de f80. i just bought one fresh of the shelf for €70, that is the same price or lower i see these on ebay. ages ago (permalink) |
attractive current [deleted] says:@abbilder said: "the F6 is may be a little bit better build, a little faster and has a better AF" these are the causes why I want to buy F6 rather than F5/F100.. at the moment, i don't know what to do... ages ago (permalink)
| | Bob Harrington says:The AF on my F100 is fast and sure. The F6 is literally a digital camera you put film into with all the bells and whistles. If I had my way, I'd go for the F5 because I like the larger body; it's closer to my D3. When I pick up the F100, it feels too small. I think any choice is a winner. You just can't go wrong. It depends also on use. How often will you load film into it? I use my F100 frequently, but mostly for personal projects and use digital for all my pro work. You can get an F100/F5 and a few lenses for what you'll pay for a new F6. ages ago (permalink) |
| | zweitakt250 says:F5's are a bargain... ages ago (permalink) |
| | fotosniper says: [https://www.flickr.com/photos/nicolasam/] the f5 is the most badass professional film body ever made. sure the f6 has a few more bells and whistles. but nothing comes close to the build and durability of this beast. |
| | MrDAT says:I agree, the F5 is amazing. Never used an F6, but I'm sure it's nice too! ages ago (permalink) |
| | beachwalker2007 says:If only Nikon hadn't taken away the option to use matrix-metering with AI/AI-S lenses in the F5 and F100 - to me this would be enough reason to look at an F6 - if I actually still shot film. Am considering letting my F5 go... Had been struggling with the decision a few years back when it was either F4 or F5 - kept the F5 because all my three F4 cameras were pretty beaten up - but more useful with AI/AI-S lenses (and smaller too with the MB-20 grip). | | Michael Roberts, Canadian says:I'd say get the F6. You'll always wonder if you should have if you don't and end up buying one later. Divide the difference in price over the life of the camera and you're talking maybe $25 a year more. ages ago (permalink) |
| | delta2864 says:the matrix thing keeps my F100 on the shelf while the F4 gets action. but most people probably don't care about the AI/AIS matrix capability like I do,but since I shoot D40, and it takes any old lens its a big deal to me ages ago (permalink) |
| | basegrinder says:so get the F6, its obvious you want it since you aren't taking any advice here into consideration ages ago (permalink) |
| | Jock? says:Just get the F6. That's what you want us to tell you, right? ages ago (permalink) |
attractive current [deleted] says:@ bob harrington: I load a pair of film every week.. all b&w.. one of you has ever tried/used/had a F6? ages ago (permalink)
| | Bob Harrington says:I'm happy to see someone using film so often. What film do you use most? I'm partial to Ilford Delta 100 or HP 5 for B/W. I've never shot the F6, but I still think you can't go wrong with any choice. It seems to boil down to want versus need versus how much you want to lighten your wallet. I'd love an F6, but will save my pennies for the next digital generation. Originally posted ages ago. (permalink) Bob Harrington edited this topic ages ago. |
| | Axel Rietschin says:+1 for F6! Add the MB-40 and it's an analog D3 (and yes, it focuses faster and more accurately than the F5. The AF unit is the same as the D2Hs/D2Xs while the exposure meter is the same as the D3/D3x. The F6 also has CLS flash so it will drive an SB-800/900 just like a D3). >one of you has ever tried/used/had a F6 I have one. Best film camera ever, at least for me. The only drawback is the battery life when not using the grip. With the MB-40 it can optionally share the D3's EN-EL4a batteries, by the way. ages ago (permalink) |
attractive current [deleted] says:@bob: i'm italian and i'm 18... all my photographer friends are for digital.. mostly I use Ilford FP 4 and HP 5 for b&w.. depends from result i'm searching.. thanks axel.. if i'll buy a F6 i will use it without the MB-40 for some months.. ages ago (permalink)

| | D'Abascal Photography/ Ramses Abascal says:My Choice was an F100 with de 28-105mm kit plus a 50mm f/1.4 and an amazing 24mm f/2.8. [https://www.flickr.com/photos/aseican/3828105216/] ages ago (permalink) |
