Volvo Cars South Africa has removed the V40 and V40 Cross Country model lines from its local range, with production having reportedly ended in 2019.

When the local arm of the Swedish automaker released its pricing bulletin for January 2020, neither the V40 hatchback nor the V40-derived Cross Country were included. Volvo Cars SA told CARmag.co.za the V40 was “officially discontinued” at some point in December 2019.

From what we understand, production of these vehicles ceased in 2019, with Volvo Cars SA likely now having run out of stock.

Before its exit from our shores, the local V40 range had comprised seven variants, ranging from the T2 Kinetic to the T5 Momentum (and including both petrol and diesel oomph). Pricing had started at R403 900 and ended at R534 700. The all-wheel-drive V40 Cross Country, meanwhile, was offered in four flavours (D3, D4, T4 and T5), priced from R497 600 to R582 450.

In January 2019, the head of Volvo Cars for Europe, the Middle East and Africa suggested the Swedish automaker would axe the V40 when its lifecycle came to an end, although added the hatchback would ultimately be replaced by something “more creative”.
