B/STOCK B I keep hearing the G8 guys say they have the fastest Pontiacs ever made but the GTO comes in @ 9.3125 lbs. per horsepower and a GTX with the 415HP LS3 is at 9.759 lbs. per horse power. Usually with aerodynamics being the same the car with the highest horse per pound wins. What is the real story on the track. #1 · Jun 10, 2014 I keep hearing the G8 guys say they have the fastest Pontiacs ever made but the GTO comes in @ 9.3125 lbs. per horsepower and a GTX with the 415HP LS3 is at 9.759 lbs. per horse power. Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions #2 · Jun 10, 2014 Gearing matters. #3 · Jun 10, 2014 The real story is that whoever has more grip and a better driver wins. #4 · Jun 10, 2014 They both are very close in the 1/4 mile. They seem to trap a bit higher 107-109, then the gto and are rated at around 13.0-13.1. It basically is a driver's race being they are so close, so it's tough to say which one has the advantage, but on paper they are rated a tenth or two faster from what I've seen. #5 · Jun 10, 2014 The automobile rags really didn't hold anything back about how they hated the GTO and loved the G8. I wonder if that's where the tenth of a second came from. I would love to run a stock LS3 G8 with my stock GTO. See if the rags were right. However the GXP also has a 3.70 rear vs the GTO's 3.46 as well as a barely shorter 1st a. 3.01 vs 2.97. That leads to a better hole shot and slightly quicker acceleration through the rest of the gears. Also, despite a 3.23 rear in the GXP auto's, they have a 4.12 first, giving it even quicker acceleration. 2-6th though they begin to fall behind. The autos should be able to cut better 60 foot and maybe 1/8th. The LS3 also has no problems hanging out between 6000 and 6600rpm's. Not that the LS2 is a slouch, but the LS3 doesn't take as big a dip from peak power to redline. All that should lead to a consistant tenth or two better time for the GXP. Just as the CTSV was about 100lbs heavier then the GTO, but(assuming it didn't wheel hop like mad) it's 3.73 rear meant it consistantly tested a tenth or two quicker. Now from a roll, the GXP has more weight to haul around but the quicker 3.70 rear. Or as Nick said, 100% driver. #7 · Jun 12, 2014 When I first bought my car I raced a buddy of mine in his GXP after we left the track. My car had a vararam and a tune. nothing else it went an 8.65 in the 1/8th that day. my friends GXP had SLP headers, cold air intake(dont remember brand) and tune and went an 8.75 that day. I think his MPH was 1-2 higher than mine(think I went 85 or 86 and he went 87)I'm also sure with more practice he would have run better at the track. But on the way home we raced from a roll and I beat him by a little over a car length. Both of our cars were full weight. #11 · Jun 14, 2014 I wonder what the GTO would've been like if it received a LS3 stock.. #12 · Jun 14, 2014 With some 3:70? gears like the G8 0 Reply Insert Quotes Post Reply
