Troubleshooting

Problem

When HP needs confirmation of a host system serial number and/or model, you can use a simple grep command to verify the information.

Resolving The Problem

As the root user, enter the following command to display the HP model and serial number:

dmidecode | egrep -i 'Proliant|Serial'

For example: [root@yin root]# dmidecode | egrep -i 'Proliant|Serial'                 Product: ProLiant DL380 G3                 Serial Number: EA1VLDN32K                 Serial Number: EA1VLDN32K

This HP system is a DL380 Generation 3 host and the serial number is EA1VLDN32K.
