In this instructional video FM content creator Fox in the Box explains everything you need to know about the xG statistics in Football Manager 2021. This new statistic has been added to the game for the first time and can be used by managers to improve their chance conversion.

What is xG?

Expected Goals (xG) measures the quality of a shot based on several variables such as assist type, shot angle and dinstance from goal, whether it was a headed shot and whether it was defined as a big chance.

Adding up a player or team's expected goals can give us an indication of how many goals a player or a team should have scored on average, given the shots they have taken.

xG in FM2021

Will it benefit a virtual manager in Football Manager 2021? Ever heard of the catch phrase 'I got FM'ed'...? The introduction of xG will allow FM players to better understand if you are simply unlucky or that you have been outplayed by your opponent. This way you will be fully informed when layinginto your players after the full-time whistle.
