Impact of academic integrity on workplace ethical behaviourLuis PortalesInternational Journal for Educational Integrity
Corruption is a serious problem in Mexico and the available information regarding the levels of academic dishonesty in Mexico is not very encouraging. Academic integrity is essential in any teaching-learning process focussed on achieving the highest standards of excellence and learning. Promoting and experiencing academic integrity within the university context has a twofold purpose: to achieve the necessary learnings and skills to appropriately perform a specific profession and to develop an ethical perspective which leads to correct decision making. The objective of this study is to explore the relationship between academic integrity and ethical behaviour, particularly workplace behaviour. The study adopts a quantitative, hypothetical and deductive approach. A questionnaire was applied to 1203 college students to gather information regarding the frequency in which they undertake acts of dishonesty in different environments and in regards to the severity they assign to each type of...

The 2019 scandal in U.S. Ivy League schools, where wealthy parents bribed officials at Yale, Stanford or Georgetown to secure access for their offspring, is only the tip of the iceberg. In a complex world of cyberspace, global markets and virtual organizations, the temptation to cut corners is everywhere—leaders in all walks of life can get away with cheating, lying or corruption. (Corruption has been around ever since there has been money. That doesn’t mean money is bad; it just means people get a bit weak-kneed around it.) What many leaders fail to realize: The way to gain real power is not through a big job title, wealth, authority or the corner office, but through integrity—defined here as honoring your word and leading by example. Close the gap between word and deed, and between tomorrow’s vision and today’s action. It is all about walking the talk—an unadulterated match of words and deeds. This article, based in part on the author’s books The Rabbi and the CEO and Strategy-In-Action, goes beyond individual integrity and explores how leaders and organizations can build cultures and systems of integrity. The article offers cases of best practices from Microsoft to Xerox, and worst practices from Enron to Dieselgate.

One of the biggest challenges of our time is to develop the management discipline into a true profession. In this respect, business schools have been accused for failing to promote better policies and management practices as well as failing to educate students, as prospective managers, about their moral and social responsibilities. This essay outlines a multi-dimensional framework for professionalization, involving the dimensions of purpose, knowledge, behavior, and expectation. Subsequently, this framework is used to define and explore various paths out of the current intellectual stasis of the field of management and business. A key pathway is creating a shared sense of professional purpose and responsibility; another important route involves developing a professional body of knowledge informed by both discovery and validation; third, so-called ‘trading zones’ need to be developed, to offer opportunities for (professionals with) different voices and interests to meet; ...

The article focuses on the fact that academic integrity is one of the elements of the internal quality assurance system in higher education institutions (hereinafter referred to as HEI). The essence of the concept "academic integrity" is revealed. The importance of the HEI management task-the introduction of the academic integrity principles in the educational environment at a non-formal level is substantiated. The modern academic environment must not only be ethically institutionalized but also have well-established ethical infrastructure and tools for ethically influencing those who commit unethical acts. The paper systematizes the basic principles and defines the benefits to adhere to the academic integrity of higher education applicants and lecturers.

Integrity is a central topic in business ethics, and in the world of business it is quite possibly the most commonly cited morally desirable trait. But integrity is conceived in widely differing ways, and as often as it is discussed in the literature and given a central place in corporate ethics statements, the notion is used so variously that its value in guiding everyday conduct may be more limited than is generally supposed. Two central questions for this paper are what work the notion does and whether it does any ethical work that is not done better by other concepts. In pursuing these questions the paper explores the most plausible range of understandings of integrity found in recent literature, considers in what sense it is a virtue, and proposes a strategy of clarification and interpretation that can facilitate both ethical reflection and the guidance of moral conduct in business. T he notion of integrity-or some notion of it-has long been important in busi- ness ethics. Integrity is presented as an ideal, cited as a virtue of character, and lamented as missing in the unscrupulous. It has been credited with underlying numerous morally positive dispositions, and its absence has been blamed for myriad wrongs. But there is too little clarity about what integrity is, both in general uses of the term and in business contexts. This point may apply to many other significant moral notions; but in the case of integrity, neither the historically central literature in the virtue tradition nor any theory elaborated by any leading moral thinker articulates a conception of integrity adequate to guide the many kinds of everyday decisions crucial in the business world. This paper will support these points and, positively, provide a framework that may help both scholars and managers to make appeals to integrity clearer and more effective.

Before a code of professional ethics can be formulated for business managers, it must be understood why management should be considered a profession and what should be its central mission. This paper proposes answers to these questions.

The degree of integrity among academics is yet to be determined because there is no proper instrument for such measurement. The purpose of this paper is therefore to identify elements that can measure integrity, as well as develop integrity framework or model. Among the themes discussed in this paper are, what are the theories, models and concepts related to integrity, previous studies on integrity and subsequent discussions on the development process of the model that are appropriate for measuring integrity. This concept paper concludes that integrity can be measured based on the values required for integrity. The implication of this concept paper is that the values that are inherent in a person determine their level of integrity. This concept paper recommends that integrity should be measured over time. It is not only to produce an index of integrity but also to remind academics of the appropriate values and practices in fulfilling their responsibilities. Furthermore, ongoing exposures to integrity instruments may prevent misconceptions about integrity that only associated with corruption, abuse of power, unprofessional and inaccurate matters in terms of duties, responsibilities, roles or positions held.

This paper argues that virtue ethics, as prominently expressed in the philosophy of Aristotle, has a crucial role in education in general and higher education in particular. Virtue ethics, which initially emerged as a rival account to deontology and consequentialism, developed from dissatisfaction with the notions of duty and obligation and their central roles in understanding morality. It also grew out of an objection to the use of rigid moral rules and principles and their application to diverse and different moral situations. Virtue ethics is character-based. The article specifically focuses on the centrality of the virtue of integrity among teachers and students in higher education. It therefore proposes shifting our attention from the ethical principles, rules, duties or obligations to virtues and character in promoting ethical behaviour.

The study of ethics and integrity are current issues that deserve scientific attention, the concept and development of integrity models and research studies in their own right. The concept of integrity had been vague as more research is incorporating integrity into their models of research. Throughout the years, improved models of integrity are useful for governments, corporations and individuals for them to make improved decision making. The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners stated that global fraud losses are at the levels of trillions of dollars a year. This could be prevented if the people in society act with higher levels of ethic and integrity. The purpose of this paper was to report the results of a systematically conducted literature review of studies related to integrity. The objective of this paper was to explore the development of integrity through literature and content review. This includes examining concepts that are considered part of integrity and the approach used towards assessing or integrating integrity in these studies. This study employed a structured review process that critically examined sources from various electronic databases. Electronic databases that only utilised strict content, scientific quality indicators and are peer-reviewed journals articles are the ones selected. Another selection criterion was that the selected article has high levels of citations. Most of the studies had associated integrity with positive ethical values practised such as leadership, honesty, and sincerity while including these values in their research models. The review briefly discusses the associated concepts of integrity and the underlying values that are connected with the use of the term integrity. The results of past studies related to integrity indicated that there are strong positive characteristics and positive values that are associated with the term integrity.

Integrity has always been an ambiguous or vague concept. Integrity as a general concept seems to be too problematic in philosophical or scientific language. This paper will aim to improve and preserve the specific notion of integrity—the concept of moral integrity as a virtue and as a moral purpose, and its opposite—the concept of counterfeit moral integrity or false moral integrity. It stresses a strong relationship between the concepts of morality and the concept of moral integrity: if moralities are diverse, moral integrity has many forms too, and the forms are only as good as the morality behind them. The paper emphasizes their organizational dimensions because any organizational impact—due to its scale—can be especially beneficial or detrimental to society. The first objective is to introduce a preliminary conceptual order by means of definitions and typologies to support clearer (language analysis) and more critical (Critical Theory) thinking on organizational moral integrity: establishing definitions of moral and ethical integrity, new definitions of material and formal moral integrity, descriptions of irrational and rational moral integrit, and individual and organizational moral integrity. The definitions and typologies are designed to be prototypes of false integrity " detectors ". The second objective is to outline an ideal of a total and rational moral commitment for every organization: organizational material ethical integrity (OMEI). The ideal of OMEI points out that most self-proclaimed ethical organizations are probably not ethically committed. The third objective is to justify the theses that (1) moral integrity can be good or bad, not simply good, and that (2) false moral integrity can be good. Whether we think of " Kantian-Nazi " integrity of Adolf Eichmann or lethal and irrational integrity of Islamic State fighters, moral integrity based on bad morality is bad. False ethical integrity (or rational moral integrity) is always bad because it imitates good morality for a bad purpose, for example: rational discourse on integrity can be a " smokescreen " to hide exploitation of labor or environmental degradation. As in the case with Irena Sendler who pretended to be " a good slave " to save children's lives, false moral integrity can be ethically good if it simulates bad morality for a good purpose. The paper offers ethical justifications for " ethical prestidigitators " , " warriors of illusions " , masters of " moral aikido " : persons and organizations that use counterfeit integrity to maximize ethical values.

This article discusses concerns related to professional integrity in academics and to the use of collegiality as an informal criterion for employment and evaluation decisions. We question the nature of the educational enterprise and the academic environment within which both students and faculty operate. We use the AAUP Statement on Professional Ethics to guide our examination of collegiality, and the three traditional areas or faculty evaluation (teaching, scholarship, and service), as they relate to professional integrity. We discuss potential pitfalls in situations involving integrity concerns, and suggest that the use of collegiality in professional decisions is more prevalent and potentially harmful than many realize. t We thank L. Frank Baum for the representations of people and institutions with which we are all familiar. We also thank all of the Scarecrows, Tin Men, Loins, Good Witches, Munchkins, Professor Marvels, Wizards, Wicked Witches, and Flying Monkeys form all of our previous and current Lands of Oz. Amidst growing claims very recently by several distinguished scholars that business management should be considered as a true profession, we evaluate its professional status from a sociological analysis of the profession. We argue that whether it is a profession or not, the managers need to demonstrate professionalism. We understand the notion and meaning of professionalism and its importance for professions and non-professional occupations. In course of evaluating and discussing professionalism by Evetts, as embodiment of elements of both occupational value and ideology, as controlling the organization of work of business managers, we argue that professionalism of business managers is best understood when the 'notion of control' is embedded in the very idea of 'character'.

Individuals that have integrity build trusting relationships with others. At the corporate level it takes individuals of integrity to develop a consensus around shared values. As this consensus builds, the corporation develops a culture of integrity. A culture of integrity creates a highly valued work environment; it impacts the quality of corporate governance; and it provides a foundation for solid long-term financial performance.

Corporate Social Responsibility Disclosure (CSRD)Imad Feneir2021
Modern environmental issues, such as the effects of global warming like ozone depletion and climate change, made companies realize the negative indirect environmental effect of their daily business activities. Not only do the environmental themes are important, but also the present financial crises have contributed to global concerns. At present, businesses are not always concerned with profit. The existence of a business cannot unattached with social and ethical responsibility issues. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), appears to be everywhere and is known to be relevant to firms all over the world. Companies are not only responsible to shareholders alone but also, they have to be responsible for their social, environmental and financial sides. They have expended money on social projects, such as education, art, sport and investment in environmental facilities.
