salamirenegade S Hi all, The GLA comes with a G-DCT transmission whereas other models like the GLC come with a G-TRONIC. What's the difference between the G-DCT and the G-TRONIC? I know DCT = Dual Clutch Transmission. Does TRONIC = Torque Converter? Which would be smoother, especially during down-shifts? Any information is greatly appreciated. #1 · Nov 12, 2016 Hi all, The GLA comes with a G-DCT transmission whereas other models like the GLC come with a G-TRONIC. I have had VAG cars with DSG and with Quattro torsen diffs and it's the same story. I beleive the DSG/DCT type of transmission can occasionally get it's predictive programming wrong and get caught out by being in the wrong "next" gear or its in the process of changing gear, when along come a human with an instruction to do something else, ending up in a slow, jerky response. The traditional auto box with a TQ converter won't do this, but they can be changing up for instance when a command to change down arrives and this will also get you a slow jerky change. Of course this may be a can of worms, but my experience would rate the TQ converter type slightly ahead in terms of smoothness. That said, I still bought a GLA with dual clutch and don't all kill me for this comment - "it is not quite as smooth as my last VW" probably because the VW had 177PS and the GLA has 381PS's to handle? Both G/box types are fine and each has its pluses & minuses but both do the job they set out too. If your considering a GLA or GLC, don't worry about the G/box types, just choose the car you like the best. #3 · Nov 12, 2016 I've noticed zero hard shifts in the GLA45; this is in any mode so far, except Race, which I haven't tried. Still under 2000 miles, won't track it until spring. The trans is setting up the next gear based on the way you are driving. So as I h=was slowing down it was getting the next lower gear ready to take over. When I floored it to speed up caused the clutch and trans to do an opposite move that could cause a jerk. On a day to day normal driving do not think you will feel and jerks unless you are a person who sees how fast they can leave a stop light then there may or may not have a jerk. #7 · Nov 12, 2016 both are great transmissions, people are more familiar with the torque converters and its characteristics. The DCT can be rough depending on the settings. I believe the W205 C63 still use a torque conver based tranmission and they are still fine. Insert Quotes Post Reply
