The G sharp minor 7 chord (G#m7) a G# minor chord (G# – B – D#) with the ‘flat 7’ of the G# Major scale included (F#).

The minor 7 chord in general is a very common and popular chord. Along with the Major 7 and Dominant 7 chords, the minor 7 chord is one of the most common 7th chords in all of music.

The G#m7 chord is essentially the same chord as Abm7.

Music is rarely actually in the key of G#m. Instead, G#m7 (and G#m) are most often used in other keys, such as the key of E Major or F# Major.

  • The G sharp minor 7 chord contains the notes G#, B, D# and F#.
  • The G#m7 chord is produced by playing the 1st (root), flat 3rd, 5th and flat 7th of the G sharp Major scale.
  • The G sharp minor 7 chord (just like all minor 7 chords) contains the following intervals (from the root note): minor 3rd, Major 3rd, minor 3rd, Major 2nd (back to the root note).
  • G#m7 is a G#m chord, with the flat 7th (F#) included.
