History[]

The Heckler & Koch G36C (Gewehr 36; Compact) is a subcarbine variant of the G36 rifle. It was designed as a shorter version of the G36K (K for kurz, "short"), the carbine variant of the G36. The G36C has been produced since January 2001.

The G36C has an incredibly short barrel of nine inches, which resulted in some design changes, such as the gas piston's operating rod, the handguard, and the stock; all shortened for the sake of user's accessibility. The carry handle of the G36K and the G36 contains a 1.5x magnification optic, eventually replaced by a simple picatinny rail carrying handle. The G36C has a set of iron sights as default instead. These traits make the G36C a better weapon for close-quarters-combat, or CQC.[1]

In-Game[]

General Information[]

The G36C is the black sheep of its family, possessing fast overall handling unlike its bigger counterparts. For a PDW however, it behaves more akin to a carbine rather than a PDW and it has surprisingly fast ADS speed for its class plus high minimum damage, and comes with various attachments which allows it to fit many play styles.

Some traits of the G36C are, low recoil with low but noticeable rotational recoil and mild camera recoil, the high minimum damage for its class, above-average muzzle velocity, and penetration depth.

However, it has a sharp damage drop-off, and does not exactly excel in CQC unlike others of its class, as it favors mid-ranged combat rather than extreme close quarters.

Usage & Tactics[]

As stated before, the G36C is closer to a carbine than a PDW. It specializes at close to mid range combat. When using the G36C with the 2-round burst or semi-auto fire mode, it is effective at dispatching most enemies at any range.

To reduce its recoil, it is recommended to use muzzle brake, stubby grip and blue laser to reduce all of its recoil simultaneously. Since it fires 5.56x45mm NATO rounds, it has access to .223 Remington, however (unless it is on a close-ranged map) it would be unwise to use it as it ruins the selling point of the gun, the 5STK at range without any significant upsides to justify it.

A more practical choice would be Armor Piercing, since it makes the gun have more penetration depth with quite literally no downsides (damage ranges are reduced, but the STK is left unscathed, it remains the same with or without AP).

The G36C has access to long barrel and .300 Blackout; long barrel resolves the problem of the short range and makes the damage ranges significantly better but makes the mobility and handling slightly worse, and .300 Blackout turns it into the T36C, making the gun more viable in CQC as it grants a 3-shot and a 2-shot headshot at its max range and extends the damage ranges, but makes the minimum STK and muzzle velocity worse.

Conclusion[]

The G36C is a very versatile weapon. The user can modify it with multiple attachment to fit their playstyles, whether it be CQC or ranged combat. The G36C has a potential to excel in any fields given the correct attachments.

Pros & Cons[]

Pros:

  • Faster aiming and walkspeeds than most other PDW's.
  • Fast tactical reload.
  • Higher penetration depth than most other PDW's.
  • Good muzzle velocity for its class.
  • Mild muzzle flip.

Cons:

  • High camera recoil.
  • Low, but noticeable rotational recoil
  • Sharp damage drop off.
  • Slow empty reload.

Trivia[]

  • The G36C has been used in media along with the MP5, notably in the Batman series and Doctor Who.
  • The G36K in the CTE was a carbine like the G36C, but was kept in the Carbine category with the G36C being moved into the PDW class in Update 4.8.0.
    • This is due to the G36C's marketing in real life as an "Ultra-Short Assault Rifle" by Heckler and Koch. Which technically still counts it being a PDW due to firing an intermediary cartridge that can combat body armor more effectively than other pistol caliber weapons.
  • It is one of the few PDWs, along with the Krinkov and FAL Para Shorty, to use non-pistol cartridges.
  • The 'C' in its designation is mistaken for "Commando" or "Carbine"—the former term being trademarked by Colt Firearms. The abbreviated C in its name stands for "Compact" instead.
  • Previously, the .300 Blackout conversion turned the G36C into the HK237.
