I can either buy a 06 GTO for 20 in cash, or get a GXP with a big down payment. Is there a definitive list of all the special stuff a GXP has on it? Is an 09 GXP superior to the GTO in all regards, or are they almost the same thing? If it makes any difference, I'd be using the car as a DD type vehicle. Also, I'm not really too keen on the GXP market yet, KBB says one with 1000 miles on it should be 35,000 - is that a realistic price? Last edited by ZeroFear; Jun 15, 2010 at 02:16 PM. It really is superior to the GTO in every way. The GTO's are nice but the G8 is a step above. Most GXP's I have seen go for 35-38k used. Upgrade the rear end, throw a cam in it, slap a blower on her for the price of the GXP and have a LOT more fun! Your going to have to upgrade the GXP rear in the long run anyways and you'll still need to do a cam, etc to be quick... If you want a less expensive car to make fast GTO. I've had my gxp for 2 months now and I love it to death! That way no monthly payments and you can have all the fun you want. I hear those are very nice DD cars with a nice interior. The GXP are nice looking cars and is a step up from the GTO but are a little expensive for what it is. I hear the resale value isnt that good either. I believe the GT is a better buy than the GXP for the money. I guess it all just boils down to would you rather buy a car and not have payments vs putting a big down payment and still having monthly payments. Goodluck on your choice Last edited by demarco313; Jun 16, 2010 at 02:24 AM. But you can get nice 05-06 GTO for 16k now And put Cam and Stuff in it with extra $$ But for 35k... You can get C6 Z06 for 38k one on autotrader with 50k miles. And unless that 06 GTO has less then 3k miles it is NOT worth 20k lol Also GXPs seem to be holding there prices right now, when pontiac was first shut down brand new ones were going for some ridiculously low prices. I wish i jumped on one then. Mod potential are good on both. If price matters then it's the GTO for sho. Personally I would pick up a C6 Z06 if your going to spend that kind of cash, but once again some people need 4 doors. GTO is slightly lighter and more aerodynamic. Its very cheap to swap to LS3 heads and ported ls3 intake. You can do it for only 200-400 out of pocket once you sell your 243 heads and ls2 intake. Just have to find a good deal on the heads themselves. I just sold my 243 heads for $400 locally and LS2 stg2 ported intake manifold complete for $400. So $800 toward the Ls3 setup. I am buying complete LS3 #821 heads, head gasket, bolts and ls3 intake complete ($900 for heads, gaskets, bolts and $300 for full assembled LS3 intake)= $1200... - $800 = $400 out of my pocket and everything is brand new. You can find a set of low mile take offs for around 400-500 depending on if they have the LS3 valves and rockers assemblies already in them or not. You could almost break even if you found a good deal on some takeoffs. One of the best bang for buck mod for these cars IMO. Bone stock LS2 GTO with stock LS3 heads and intake will wooop up on a stock LS3 GXP all day. May only be a car or two but I think the GTO has a slight advantage because of weight and aerodynamics. G8's are way too big and bulky imo, very blocky styling like the 2010 Camaro, chargers etc. I like the way the GTO looks on the outside and inside more. GXP does have some cool features though, but it better for the extra price... Raced two GXPs and they are very very strong cars, but seemed to lose it slightly on the top end. I ran one at the track a few times and it was very close. I lost once and won once... I won with a 12.96 to his 13.01 and I lost with a 13.2 I to his 13.1 I believe it was... they were very close runs. I had my current mods except vararam intake instead of svede otrcai and he was stock except for some drag radials. The GXP had me until we neared the 1000 ft where we were dead even and I passed him on the big end just barely getting it. Other encounter with a GXP was a roll race from about 50-130. He was stock as well... He didnt honk it off, he just gassed it when I downshifted next to him and took a very slight jump... about a 1/4 car. Reeled him in and had about a 1/2 car on him at 130... and I have just come to the conclusion that the extra weight and bigger car/less aerodynamics hurts them slightly towards the top end. Once you grab those ls3 heads your set and mod for mod will be gaining the same a GXP would. But slightly lighter and you didnt pay 35k for a GXP... Ported LS3 Heads and intake with full boltons and a strong cam 23x/23x .600/.600 get you in the 470-500 RWHP range. Un ported LS3 heads with full bolt ons and same cam seems to get people about 430-450. Numbers differ because of minor variances in each setup. Add a 402 rotating assembly later and your sitting around 550rwhp, you can do all that for less then the 20k price difference. **** can probably throw a F.I. setup on the 402 and be right near 20k in parts not including labor (do it yourself you sissys!). That would net you 600-1000rwhp depending on what kinda of crazy forced induction setup you go for. Did I mention I am slightly biased... Even funnier because there is 1 GXP in the 11's (and its an A6) and like 25 GT's (which of course are all A6's).
