To you that have used both. Which one do you prefer? Which gives a less irritable shave? Which would you prefer to use if it were to be your daily drive?

Haven’t used the regular open comb, but I have and regularly use the Jaws and safety bar version. The safety bar version is plenty efficient and quite comfortable. I like open open combs quite well, but if I want to have a great open comb experience my favorite remains the R41. If irritation is of concern might I suggest the .68 version as it is a little milder and I believe is a bit easier to avoid some irritation. Ultimately some amount of irritation comes down to technique as well as the combo of blades, soap and good prep.

I have both. I find that the OC brings some blade feel and irritation into the mix without adding any extra closeness to the shave. At least that’s the way I experienced it, and went right back to the 84 solid bar. The Jaws on the other hand has a bit more efficiency than the other 84s, but again, at the cost of some discomfort and irritation. For me the solid bar 84 is the perfect combo of smoothness and close shaving results. S

I had the .68 SB, .84 SB and .84 OC. I sold the .68 SB because it was just too mild, or inefficient, for my preferences. I rarely use the .84 SB for the same reason. For me the .84 OC is the ideal blend of close and comfortable. While there is certainly some blade feel, I can use it daily without developing any irritation. B

i have both and feel they shave about the same. i prefer the feel of the safety bar vs the open comb though. if it's helpful. i also refer the SLOC's feel to the GC OC.

I prefer the .84 Jaws.

I have tried OC razors, including the GC, but they just do not work for me. I am an old guy and my skin is not as tight and smooth as it was when I was 30 years old. I have a cleft chin which makes it even harder to use an OC. I find the .84 SB to be more comfortable, with less irritation and a better shave than even the .68 OC.
