Design and Features
The Gigabyte G24F uses the same aesthetic as its bigger siblings so it can look like an office monitor to some who don’t know about the brand. The device has a matte black finish and a glossy strip at the back so it looks timeless and it will not clash with themed setups. The display is bezel-free on three sides so you won’t get distracted while gaming even if there are inner borders.
The first thing we like about it is its compact dimensions which makes it a great choice for those with tight spaces such as apartments or dorms. It only needs 5.38 inches of depth so it’s ideal for narrow desks or for those who have a lot of peripherals. It’s not the lightest monitor at 11.69 pounds, but it is still easy to move around.
Its build quality is decent even if it’s a budget model so you don’t have to worry about its durability or reliability. The plastics used are sturdy enough to prevent flexing and cracking, plus there were cosmetic defects when it was unboxed. The stand is stable enough as well so the screen won’t shake or sag unless you nudge it accidentally.
The Gigabyte G24F has an OSD joystick at the back which you can easily reach without leaning in. It is very easy to use so navigating Gigabyte’s user-friendly OSD shouldn’t be too troublesome, even for beginners. There are still some models out there that use buttons for the OSD so this feature is nice to have.
The stand included with the monitor only offers tilt and height adjustments so it isn’t the most flexible in its price range. However, that’s what most will ever need for basic setups since pivoting and swivel are usually useful for multi-monitor arrangements. You can use VESA mounts, but that will be an added cost if you don’t have one yet.
It also has a decent amount of connectors for daily use, starting with its DisplayPort 1.2 slot and two HDMI 2.0 connectors. That can hold your PC plus up to two consoles so the monitor can be triple its value as an all-in-one display. You also get two USB slots for peripherals which are handy for cable management.
The Gigabyte G24F doesn’t have speakers, but that’s okay since it is a budget model, plus they aren’t suited for gaming anyway. You will get a better experience with headsets since they are tuned for the same purpose this monitor was designed for.
Display and Performance
The Gigabyte G24F sports a 24-inch Fast IPS panel with a 1920 x 1080 resolution, a 170Hz refresh rate, and a 1ms MPRT response time. The backlight has a 300 cd/m2 typical output while the contrast ratio is listed at 1000:1. This model isn’t HDR certified, but its spec-sheet mentioned that its DP slot is HDR-capable.
Most of us are used to 1080p monitors since they are everywhere, such as in schools or even in the office. It is not sharp and extra-detailed, but visibility is great, and it’s easy on the eyes for anything like reading or browsing. You also won’t need too much GPU power to maximize the refresh rate so it’s perfect for budget builds.
The Gigabyte G24F renders 99% sRGB and around 82% DCI-P3 which equates to good vibrancy for games and daily use. It is reasonably accurate with a default deltaE average of 2.23 so colors look balanced and natural. Most users won’t need to calibrate the monitor, especially if it is only for gaming.
Using a colorimeter with it improved its dE average to 1.87, correcting some of the minor temperature issues. However, the improvement isn’t considerable enough to justify getting a colorimeter for this monitor, especially since they aren’t cheap. We recommend tweaking the monitor to your liking instead if you don’t have the gadget since the screen already looks good for gaming.
Its backlight reached 305 cd/m2 at 100% while the contrast ratio peaked at 1124:1 at 60% brightness. That’s a good and healthy result for IPS plus it has enough illumination to avoid looking dim when it’s used during daytime. However, it still cannot provide deep blacks like VA and OLED panels, but that’s natural for an IPS monitor.
Panel uniformity for the Gigabyte G24F showed some backlight bleeding which become noticeable in dark scenes. The upper edges showed a bit of clouding in select instances, so it can be annoying at times. Note that this isn’t permanent for all monitors made due to tolerances and the nature of IPS, so there are better units out there.
The Gigabyte G24F is practically blur-free if you use its excellent overdrive feature with the fast IPS panel’s capabilities. We recommend the Picture Quality or Balance setting to reduce persistence to almost nothing. This monitor works great for fast-paced competitive games just like TN variants were in the past.
The Gigabyte G24F is compatible with both FreeSync and G-Sync so you don’t need to worry about losing VRR functionality. This is handy since it’s quite difficult to get a specific GPU due to the shortage and high pricing. Input lag sits at 4ms at 170Hz, so there is no need to worry about delays while playing.
Thoughts on the Gigabyte G24F
The Gigabyte G24F is a great choice for gaming on a budget without sacrificing overall quality and performance. It offers a reasonably accurate IPS display that’s fast and vibrant so most users can enjoy it right away. It lacks a few creature comforts, but that’s understandable for a lower-priced gaming monitor.
It’s missing a few features that you could get from identical monitors, but that’s okay since what matters more here is the screen’s performance. There are uniformity issues as well, but those are natural and expected from IPS monitors. So overall, the G24F is an excellent buy if you are looking for a gaming monitor that will not break the bank.

- Affordable
- Fast and Responsive
