Gigi Hadid Says One-Year-Old Khai Is "So Smart" And "So Aware"

Gigi Hadid "still can't believe" that she's a mom to her one-year-old baby daughter, Khai Hadid Malik.

In a new interview for InStyle, the supermodel opened up about Khai's personality, as well as finding community with fellow mom friends.

When asked what she appreciates most about her daughter, whom she welcomed with ex-boyfriend Zayn Malik in September 2020, Hadid said, "She's just so smart, and she's so aware. She watches everything, she's always learning, she's always looking. She's just awesome."

She added that it sometimes still feels incredulous to be a mom. "I still can't believe it. It's wild," Hadid continued. "A lot of my mom friends feel like that, and we're nearing the first couple years [with our kids]. You're obsessed with them, but sometimes you turn and you're like, 'Oh my god. Where did you come from?'"

Of her group of fellow mom friends, the model joked, "We only talk about babies and sleeping and what bottles don't leak. One of them was like, 'Hey, do you ever want to get dinner without the kids?' I was like, 'Yeah, girl. Let's go.'"

Hadid previously spoke about coping with the anxieties of motherhood for Harper's BAZAAR's August 2021 cover story.

"During my pregnancy, I had one journal that I called my good journal and one journal that I called my bad journal. They weren't that literal, but one was more for the memories, for Khai. Maybe one day I'll give her the bad journal just to be real about it," she said. Inside the "bad" journal are, as she explained, "Anxieties and days where I felt like, 'Am I good enough to be a mom?' I didn't want to feel guilty about feeling those things or writing those things down."

She also said that Khai, then 10 months old, enjoyed being out in nature while on the Hadid family farm in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

"She loves the birds, the animals," the model continued. And, when asked if Khai will one day follow in her mother's equestrian footsteps, Hadid answered, "Yes. She will one day definitely be on a horse."
