GM claimed 0-60 times If you guys remember back in 2005 they listed the vette to do 0-60 in 4.2 seconds and back in 08 they listed the LS3 to do 0-60 in 4 flat. Now they list the 2011 corvette 0-60 in 4.2. They never seem to get things right, but corvettes are definitely one of the best cars out there and absolutely love mine! I thought it was 4.3 for the 05 and 4.2 for the 08+.That,btw,would be under optimum conditions I imagine, which rarely occurs out here.Still fast as hell though.

I don't know they never seem to get things right but there were some differing performance figures released. Maybe different days different results. One source has.... "Top Speed: The 2005 Corvette is capable of a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph), faster than any production Corvette in history. Acceleration: the 2005 Corvette reaches zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds. With the optional Z51 Performance Package, 0-100 km/h acceleration time improves to 4.1 seconds. The 2005 Corvette covers the quarter-mile in 12.6 seconds at a speed of 183 km/h (114 mph)." Another performance chart I have shows.... Attached Images

Those times quoted by the OP may be off a little because GM usually quoted different 0-60 times for the manual tranny with and without the Z51 package, and for the automatic tranny with and without the Z51 package. For example, here's what they quoted for the 2005 C6. Quote: Zero to 60 mph times quoted by GM. Z06, 6-spd manual, 3.7 sec 6-spd manual w Z51 4.1 sec 6-spd manual w/o Z51 4.3 sec 4-spd auto tranny w Z51 4.5 sec 4-spd auto tranny w/o Z51 4.6 sec So, no, OP, I know for sure your statement about the 2005 quoted times is wrong. Notice I said quoted times, not what the car would actually do. Last edited by Vette_DD; 01-17-2011 at

I posted similar stats several months ago during one of the base/GS controversy threads. My point being, the GS with its' increased weight and less aero than the standard C6 will not show significant improvement in 0-60 or other performance times. The Z06 brakes will help it on a road course, but straight line it's kind of a 'jump ball'. These stats contribute to my situation; can't justify the $30,000+ to trade up to a '11 GS from my '05. I'd rather spend the additional $15,000 or so required and go to a Z06 that will actually deliver a performance difference. Or, buy a low mile '07-'09 Z for about the same amount. There are magazine road test numbers out there from '05 showing the Z51 6 speed cars with 0-60 times at 4.0. It all depends whose numbers you use for your particular argument. I'd like to see a new head to head road test comparo of a base and a GS coupe, both 6-speed, to get some accurate numbers for '11. I recall seeing the 2008 stat of 0-60 being at 4 sec flat as well. It was for the 6-speed manual. Don't recall if it was for Z51 or not. It also stated top speed in 08 to be 190 MPH. It was in several of GM's literature pieces for 08. Reply Like miami08VETTE View Public Profile Send a private message to miami08VETTE Find More Posts by miami08VETTE

I own a 2011 GS Manual which is a fantastic car. While I accept that the GS probably stops and turns better than the base model given the brake/tire/suspension upgrades, I seriously doubt it is any faster in a straight line. Although true that the GS is geared more aggressively, it weighs at least 100 pounds more. Regardless, I do not think a human being can sense a difference of 0.1 or 0.2 sec from 0 to 60 MPH. Anyone looking for a significant difference in straight line performance needs to step up to a Z06 or ZR 1 for that matter. with one exception - guys who track their cars, then .1 faster = a win. Tom Reply Like AFVETTE View Public Profile Send a private message to AFVETTE Find More Posts by AFVETTE

The 1/4, 0-100-150.. Braking, Skid Pad numbers are more indicative of performance in cars that can go over 175MPH. I mean really... the 0-60 test is in essence designed to give a buyer of a COMMUTER car an idea of how long it would take to reach cruising speed on the FREEWAY... a COMMUTER CAR.. as in Camry, Malibu, Focus, or Caravan. 0-60 can be achieved literally in a Blink of an eye in some of these cars, and using it sometimes as a gauge of a car's performance credentials can also be deceptive... In other words U could attempt to achieve "all powerful" 0-60 times but hit the gas in a 350HP+ car and U might just sit and spin for 3/10ths before U ever take off... The 1/4 miles is the choice of track running. I have NEVER been to the track or even as a kid, heard old timers talk about how fast their 66 Chevy II, 69 Road Runner, or 70 1/2 Camaro got to 60MPH... They always talked about, and we always look at, the 1/4 Mile or 0-150-0 which measures all out acceleration and stopping. The 0-60 talk around here concerning "Super Cars" or cars that posting Super Car times is REDUNDANT. Consider that these days 5 seconds to 60 can be achieved by SUVs (Jeep SRT8) and Full Size Sedans (G8 GT) I vote that we reserve 0-60 times to non-performance cars like the Daily Commuter types My suggestion simply lends to the idea that when we are talking about Corvettes, Porsche's, Vipers, Camaro, Mustangs, Ferraris, Bugattis.. etc.. We move to a high realm... 4 instance.. a Veyron does 0-60 in 2.8secs.. which for a 1000HP car seems rather mundane.. considering we have 505HP cars that can do it in 3.4secs... and LET'S BE CLEAR.. 6/10ths is a BLINK of an eye unmeasurable by "seat of the pants" or the eyes... One doesn't see any real awe inspiring numbers from the Veyron until we start speaking about 0-100-0 which is 9.9secs.. meaning by the time a Prius is hitting 40MPH... SAY AGAIN...by the time a Prius got to 60... a Veyron.. hell a Zr1 would have already done 0-100 and back again to 0 Reply Like

Of course the thing that established 60 MPH as a magic number was that represents traveling 1 mile in 1 minute, at one time considered a remarkable rate of speed. So 0-60 times have been a historical measure of a car's performance far longer than anyone on this Forum has been driving. Since 95% of Vette owners don't track or race their cars it is still a relevant and interesting measure of real world performance, because few of us ever find the need to go from zero to 100 mph and then slam on the brakes until we come to a full stop. However 0-100-0 is still an interesting statistic, especially to those that track their cars, as are 1/4 mile times and speeds to those that drag race, and top speed is to those who are in a real hurry to get somewhere. Their really isn't any need to drop any one of these measures of a car's performance in favor of another, why not just do them all? For instance, it would be very interesting to know the top speed of a G/S. For some reason I have never run across this statistic. My 05 MN6 Z51 does 0-60 in 4.1 seconds. I've never tried it but that's what I tell anyone that interested.

Even 0-60 performance times are not everything. GM haters use to say that American cars are only good for straight line performance. Well the new 911T did the 0-60 in about 2.8 seconds but loses on the track to the ZR1 and even Z06 with the Z07 option. If you can sense a .1 or two on the street then you are too sensitive. How many street cars can actually do 0-60 in about 3.9-4.3 second? Any C6 pretty much doesn't have much competition. Don't care about the nums but do know this car is scary fast. I very rarely really goose it but some kids in an older hotrod were playing with me on the interstate so I got a little ticked and floored it and kept it down....that blast into passing gear for about ten seconds gave me G forces like it was going to the moon..... when the kids caught up a while later they were clapping and one of them was waving a white hanky/flag Reply Like lottavettes View Public Profile Send a private message to lottavettes Find More Posts by lottavettes

Exactly. Whatever model they are trying to sell more of, they will fudge the numbers. It is GM's trick of the trade. Either way 4.0 or 4.2 or 3.9, you will never feel the difference between those numbers. On the official GM website, right on the main page of the Chevy site, GM boasts a top speed of 190MPH on the base C6, but for some reason it is silent about the GS. GM boasts a top speed of 198MPH on the Z06 and for the ZR1 boasts a top speed of 205MPH. GM will be silent when it wants to be. Last edited by LBear; 01-17-2011 at
