The HP Omen you linked is a 17", while the zenbook is 15.6". Do you want a larger screen?

You have to store the data somewhere, otherwise you'll start placing it in RAM or pagefile.

Would it be worth spending an extra $90 for 2 more GB of VRAM?

Depends on how much the increase is (is it to a 1050 Ti?), but I'd say yes.

Also, the zenbook has 512GB SSD while you have an option to choose between HDD, SSD, or a combination of both.

its only to a 1050 but with 4GB vram, the 1050ti would cost another $100 on top of that.

Up to you. Is this your mobile or full-time workstation? Are you a student?

If you're just a student, I'd take the 2GB for now. If you're getting paid, I'd go with the 1050 Ti.

The Laptops are both very good. I would recommend the ASUS for nice 2560x1440 video rendering and portability. But if you want 4GB of VRAM, go with the HP. DRAM is actually more powerful on editing. So I suggest the ASUS for Price Per Performance.

My understanding was that GPU is also important for video editing and that HP has a GTX 1050 compared to the GTX 960m,

In Sony Vegas, GPU video editing is very iffy and does not work sometimes. Especially when rendering with GPU.

"May your frame rates be high and your temperatures low"

    I misread titles/posts way too often--correct me if I don't.

I remember the 960M being about as good as a 750 Ti. I'd go for the 1050, but the better question is what video editor are you using?

Check out my guide on how to scan cover art here!

My understanding was that GPU is also important for video editing and that HP has a GTX 1050 compared to the GTX 960m,

I also did some more research. You should get 16GB of DRAM and a GTX 1050 4GB for the HP. You need to get the best stuff you can get so the laptop will last you 3-5 years before upgrade. It barely makes a difference in performance with the GTX 1050 4GB and the 1050 Ti for rendering. But if you want as much power you want, go with the 1050 Ti instead. Here is a link for it. You should also get the 4K display if you plan on gaming too. http://store.hp.com/us/en/ConfigureView?catalogId=10051&langId=-1&storeId=10151&urlLangId=&catEntryId=1553154&quantity=1
