Jul 31, 2012 7 0 10,510 I'm diciding between two Lenovo Notebooks that cost the same: Lenovo Y700-15ISK Gaming 15.6" FHD IPS, Core i5-6300HQ, 16GB, 512GB SSD, GTX 960M 4GB Lenovo Legion Y520-15IKBN Gaming 15.6" Full HD IPS, Core i5-7300HQ, 8GB, 1TB+128GB SSD, GTX 1050 Ti 2GB Things is I plan to do only light gaming (older games and low resource like Blizzard and CS:GO, no modern triple A) and tend to prefer the former because of more RAM, bigger SSD (don't need more than 512GB anyways). I won't notice the difference in CPU performance so what it comes down to are the GPUs. Solution If heavy gaming isn't really your priority then productivity wise you'll be better off with the Y700-15ISK to be honest. The 1050 Ti wold give you a significant edge in gaming though, much better than the GTX 960M. Sort by date Sort by votesRCFProd

Jul 31, 2012 7 0 10,510 It's got only 2GB though which seems lacking. Upvote 0 DownvoteRCFProd

Herald Dec 8, 2013 183 0 10,760 Think that's a typo to be honest, there is nothing such as a GTX 1050 Ti 2GB. There is only a 4GB version. Upvote 0 Downvoteh3r3t1k

Jul 31, 2012 7 0 10,510 Nope it's not, the 1050TI has "up to" 4GB. I did some research. I think 2GB is correct. This is not enough. Why get a faster card that doesn't have enough memory for higher resolutions? I think I'll go with the older notebook with more RAM and bigger SSD. "Moving on, paired up with the GP107 GPU in the GTX 1050 Ti for Laptops will be paired with 7Gbps GDDR5 for VRAM. As is usually the case with laptops, the amount of VRAM is an “up to” specification – in this case up to 4GB – so I’m expecting we’ll see both 2GB and 4GB laptops." http://www.anandtech.com/show/10980/nvidia-launches-geforce-gtx-1050-ti-gtx-1050-for-laptops Upvote 0 DownvoteRCFProd

Herald Dec 8, 2013 183 0 10,760 Yet, even if it was the case, VRAM isn't anywhere near as important as some people believe though. The GTX 1050 Ti 2GB would still be much better in most cases than a GTX 960M 4GB, even with double the amount of VRAM on paper. It's still way below specs otherwise. Like, better performance as in, you'll get 60 fps with a GTX 1050 Ti 2GB in titles you'd get 30 fps with a GTX 960M 4GB. That much of a difference. Upvote 0 Downvoteh3r3t1k

Jul 31, 2012 7 0 10,510 The store confirmed that the 1050TI in this notebook is 2GB. I went with the older notebook because twice as much RAM, much bigger SSD and the GPU still is very much sufficient even for the AAA games I might play occasionally at 1080p (Witcher 3, Far Cry Primal). edit: I still have my desktop gaming rig.
