GTX 970M or 1050M for Video Encoding! aleclee By aleclee August 22, 2017 in Graphics Cards Share https://linustechtips.com/topic/825420-gtx-970m-or-1050m-for-video-encoding/
 Followers 2 Go to solution Solved by D13H4RD, August 22, 2017

Wow! thanks for the quick reply guys! So would this mean it's better for me to just get a 970M instead of 1050 for Encoding Performance? Would help my budget :) Have you guys had any experience with this to by any chance?

I have a laptop with a GTX 1060.

The GTX 970M is a respectable GPU, but Pascal is a pretty efficient architecture compared to Maxwell that the 970M is based on. That said, if your desired video application supports native H.264 encoding through the use of the GPU’s built-in encoder, the 970M should do a good job.

    Hello everyone!

First time here, and I couldn't have thought of a better place to ask this peculiar question. And I need your guys help to understand this problem. As of right now, i'm looking for a new laptop to do my video editing on. Inevitably my priority is to have fast video encoding with Adobe Media Encoder/Premier. While doing my research into finding a good laptop with a powerful-enough videocard. I stumbled on rumors and benchmarks (like on gpu-boss) that the 970M out performs the 1050M?!?! This confuses me completely, and left me scratching my head. Inevitably, I'm not interested to use the laptop to play videogames with, as I want to focus only on video encoding performance. Plus, all these GT/GTX/M references confuse me a lot. Has anybody got experience with this? Bear with me, i'm kinda a n00b when it comes to this. Thank you in advance! :)

GTX 1050m is not a thing, its a full sized GTX 1050 in a laptop.

    Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

    Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

    138 is a good number.

Yes, the 970M is beefier than the 1050, but not by an astronomically large amount.

Make sure that Media Encoder and Premiere Pro properly supports using the GPU's encoder. As they're Adobe stuff, they should.

Yeah, I only just came to realize that any laptop model I can find which has 970 is more expensive than a 1050. Silly me didn't check this first when I thought a 1050 would be more expensive than a 970. Thanks Nvidia! :D Thanks again for your input and have a good day :)

    In that case, 1050.

Whatever improvement you get with the 970M is not worth the premium.
