Super-medium battlefield helicopter
Derived from Airbus Helicopters' proven H175 civil platform, the H175M is a super-medium military helicopter delivering exceptional range and payload for tactical missions from sea level to hot-and-high environments. With the largest cabin in its class (12 cubic metres) and longest range (600 nautical miles), the H175M provides unmatched versatility for troop transport, special operations forces delivery, search and rescue, and casualty evacuation missions.
Spain became the world's first customer in December 2025, ordering six H175Ms for Wing 48 of the Spanish Air and Space Force to replace aging AS332M/AS532UL Super Pumas. The selection validates the H175M's combination of advanced Helionix avionics, 4-axis autopilot, and proven civil platform heritage.
Outstanding performance
Modern, versatile, and offering the largest cabin in its category, the twin-engine H175M is perfectly tailored for a wide range of tactical assignments – including troop transport, delivery of special operations forces (SOF), utility, search and rescue, and casualty evacuation/medical evacuation.

Endurance
Range, endurance and the largest cabin
The H175M’s 12 cubic metres of cabin space is the largest on the market for a helicopter of its size. It boasts an impressive radius-of-action of nearly 300 nautical miles and an endurance of nearly six hours. The fuel tanks’ full integration into the airframe eliminates any impedance of cabin capacity, while allowing excellent ground clearance for operation in all types of terrain with no adverse impact on performance or exposure to external threats.
Helionix avionics for mission flexibility and safety
The Helionix avionics system provides optimum situational awareness for safe and effective piloting during the most challenging mission profiles, including nap-of-the-Earth flight.
Additionally, it ensures extensive cockpit commonality for pilots who already have trained and flown Helionix-equipped helicopters (Airbus’ H135, H145 and H160), reducing training and transition requirements while also providing cost efficiencies.
The four-screen Helionix displays ensure an intuitive, pilot-friendly cockpit environment that is designed with optimised ergonomics, displaying the most pertinent details needed for the mission and for the fight (including input from the electro-optical system).
4-axis autopilot
The H175M’s dual-duplex 4-axis automatic flight control system (AFCS) provides precision and stability during flight, even in the most challenging weather conditions. Flight envelope protection features include automatic modes such as auto-recovery in the event of pilot disorientation, along with VORTEX ring warning, as well as precision and stability in the hover.
In optimising the crew’s workload to focus on the mission, the AFCS ensures safe final approaches (particularly at low heights for prevention against terrain collision), along with a hands-off one-engine failure management mode. Its TCAS II function for automatic collision avoidance further enhances the helicopter’s overall flight safety, especially in crowded airspace.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
H175M
What is the Airbus H175M used for?
The Airbus H175M is a military variant of the proven H175 civil helicopter designed for troop transport, special operations forces (SOF) delivery, search and rescue (SAR), casualty evacuation (CASEVAC/MEDEVAC), utility missions, and governmental VIP transport. Spain became the launch customer in December 2025 with six aircraft ordered to replace AS332M/AS532UL Super Pumas.
How many troops can the H175M carry?
The H175M can transport up to 15 troops depending on mission configuration, leveraging the largest cabin space in its class at 12 cubic metres. For CASEVAC operations, it accommodates multiple stretchers plus medical personnel. The flat floor with no partition enables rapid reconfiguration between transport, medical, and utility roles.
What is the H175M’s range and endurance?
The H175M offers an exceptional range of 1,111 km (600 nm) with standard fuel tanks and a radius of action of nearly 300 nm. Maximum endurance is nearly 6 hours. With over 2 tonnes of underfloor fuel capacity fully integrated into the airframe, the H175M delivers both payload and range without compromise.
Can the H175M be armed with weapons?
Yes. Airbus is integrating the HForce modular weapon system onto the H175M platform, enabling the integration of guided and unguided weapons including machine guns and rockets. While early demand focuses on tactical troop transportation, armed variants are being developed based on customer requirements.
What engine powers the H175M?
The H175M is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6C-67E turboshaft engines, each delivering 1,776 shaft horsepower. The proven PT6 engine family provides excellent hot-and-high performance, large power reserves, and reliable one-engine-inoperative (OEI) capability for safe operations in demanding military environments.
What avionics and flight systems does the H175M feature?
The H175M features the Helionix avionics suite with dual-duplex 4-axis automatic flight control system (AFCS), providing precision and stability in challenging weather conditions. Flight envelope protection includes auto-recovery for pilot disorientation, VORTEX ring warning, TCAS II collision avoidance, and hands-off one-engine failure management. The cockpit is fully night vision goggle-compatible with four multi-function displays.
