V-League Eximbank Cup 2012 Round 12

Hanoi T&T edge Saigon FC 1-0 Nhan Dan – A solitary goal by Van Quyet in the fifth minute helped Hanoi T&T overcome Saigon FC 1-0 in their Round 12 match on Sunday to sit firmly on top of the V-League Eximbank Cup 2012 with a total of 23 points. Monday, April 02, 2012 13:38

After two consecutive losses in both previous rounds, Saigon FC needed a win to return to the race for this year’s title. However, their hopes were dealt a huge blow when striker Van Quyet beat goalie Tan Truong to give Hanoi T&T an early lead just five minutes into the match.

During the remainder of the game, the Saigon players intensified their offence seeking to equalise the score but failed to break the hosts’ solid and stubborn defence despite their concerted efforts.

With this loss, Saigon FC drops two places to rank fifth in the standings with 19 points.

In other games the same day, Becamex Binh Duong also slipped two spots to the fourth position following their 1-2 loss to Hoang Anh Gia Lai, while Thanh Hoa recorded an impressive 4-0 victory against TDCS Dong Thap on their home field.

Defending V-League champions Song Lam Nghe An and 2011 National Cup winners Navibank Saigon overcame Khatoco Khanh Hoa and Kienlongbank Kien Giang, respectively, by the same score of 3-1 in their matches on Friday.

SHB Da Nang beat XM The Vissai Ninh Binh with three straight goals at Chi Lang stadium on Saturday to move up to second place in the current V-League standings. Meanwhile, Vincem Hai Phong remains at the bottom of the rankings with only seven points after being held to a 1-1 draw by Hanoi FC at Lach Tray stadium the same day.
