Crochet project materials
- Crochet hook size: H-8 5 mm or hook needed to obtain gauge.
- Yarn: Worsted weight yarn #4. I used Lion Brand Feels Like Butta Yarn in Ice, White, Red & Black.
- Yarn needle: Use this to weave in your ends.
- Scissors: Use scissors to fasten off your yarn.
- Stitch marker(s): These help keep track of your stitches.
- Large pom pom maker: For making a pom pom for your hat.

C2C crochet technique
- The pattern is made using the c2c technique of making “squares” back and forth in diagonal rows starting in the bottom right corner and ending in the top left corner.
- Each square is made of a chain 3 + 3 double crochet.
- Chain 6 to start a new row and chain 3 to start a new square.
- You can follow the picture graph or the written pattern.
- The written pattern tells you how many squares to make of each color and in what order.

Pattern notes
- The main part of the hat is worked flat (C2C).
- The brim is made separately and then sewn onto the hat.
- Repeat instructions between the asterisks (*) for the rest of the round.
- Join each round with a slip stitch to the first stitch made in that round.
- The beginning chain does not count as a stitch.

Assembling the heart crochet hat pattern
Lay your hat with the wrong side facing out. Use your tapestry needle to sew up the seam. Turn your hat inside out so that the right side is now facing out and the seam is on the inside.
Closing the top of the retro heart crochet hat pattern
Join yarn to the top of the hat. You are going to work in the round.

Rnd 3: Ch 2, *dc2tog*, dc in last stitch, join (18 stitches)
Adult Size
Rnd 1: Ch 2, work 2 dc in each square, join (76 stitches)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Use your tapestry needle to sew the top closed.
Making the brim of your retro heart crochet hat pattern
Brim is made separately and then sewn onto the hat.
Row 1: Ch 9, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each rem ch, turn (8 stitches)
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st in the back loops only, turn (8 stitches)
Toddler Size: Repeat row 2 for a total of 66 rows.
Child Size: Repeat row 2 for a total of 70 rows.
Adult Size: Repeat row 2 for a total of 76 rows.
Use your tapestry needle to sew the brim to the hat. Sew each square from the hat to 2 rows of the brim. The brim will stretch as you go.
Add a pom pom to the heart crochet hat pattern
- Wind theyarn around both arches.
- Cut the yarn along the middle gap.
- Tie with a piece of scrap yarn.
- Open the arches and remove the pom pom.
- Trim any loose ends.
Attach the pom pom to the top of your hat.

Weave in your ends.
