Not sure if the Explorer has a higher profile or not. I'm also using a Thule 415 crossbar and attachments which adds another inch of height over the factory set up (also a little tougher than the low profile bars) I have the 17 inch wheels which I believe increases the ride height over the standard 16's as well. I did get someone to measure the box for me, and adding that to the official (per the Volvo web site) height of the car, I come up a about 7' 2". The limit for the ferry is 220cm (a bit over 7' 3").
