Joined Aug 8, 2020 Messages 42 Reaction score 26 On the market for a new guitar to add to the collection, I own a Les Paul, HSS strat, and Jackson DK7 with blackouts that aren't going anywhere. Now I'm hunting an HH or HSH guitar, hard tail or non-locking Trem (no interest in a Floyd) with some modern appointments to cover some slightly different territory. Looking for a fast(er) neck but have never bonded with the ultra thins like the wizard 3. Definitely no 50's style necks, or ultra low radius. I do love a maple fingerboard, but would be open to another wood. I'd like it to cover hard rock, old school metal, and classic rock (modern metal isn't a must but would be nice) while still sounding great clean. Could be a super strat or something with direct mount PUPs. Coil splits and quilt tops would be cool, but not must haves. Budget is <$800. I am a big fan of buying used to make my money go further. Open to all brands and doing some light mods, as long as the value is there. What would you recommend based on my criteria!? What else should be on my radar? Looking at: Charvel DK24 2PT (top choice but top of budget) Jackson DK2QM Washburn X50 Pro Schecter C-1 classic T

It's been swell, but the swelling's gone down.

I'm not in love with the pickup config as much as I thought I'd be. I'd agree that a HH guitar with a 5 way is pretty versatile. puswitch_50.png The Ibanez AZ has an interesting take, running the neck and middle in series, which is about like having a neck humbucker. Should the Luke 3 be on my list? The Sterling versions can be pretty cheap and I could do a PUP swap to whatever I want. I've heard the V neck profile is somewhat surprising and unconventional for this sort of fast playing, mid to high gain application. Do you like the neck? gunslinger

I bought one in burgundy a couple months ago and I'm also thoroughly enjoying it. I ended up hard tailing the tremolo but that's mostly cause I have no clue how to properly set it up for my playing and just not having the interest in figuring that out just yet, though I plan on doing that at a later point. The switching options are great on this thing and it's very versatile. The pickups are VERY hot and were set far too high for my taste straight from the factory but once I lowered them I quite like them. They are pretty bright for humbuckers but as someone who generally prefers single coils I've not minded that at all. A bit of the reason for the brightness is that the tone pot is a No Load one, but I like that feature and don't intend on changing it. disconnector

I love the neck - it’s a fairly soft V that just melts into your hand. I’m no shredder but for my hands it plays just as fast as the elliptical neck in my Suhr Modern. The Luke is an *amazing* guitar. The trem is bombproof and super sensitive. The neck is smooth as sex and the pickups are flat out perfect for the guitar. The EBMM Luke actually has a preamp that lets you adjust the volume of the 2 and 4 positions so there’s no volume drop plus the push/push boost is very usable. No SS frets but that’s the only downside I can find. I love mine! I can’t speak to the Sterling models but if they are off of the same specs I think you’re going to be a happy dude. Fro68

I've owned Ibanez RG-550s in the past and the cheesy middle pickup and two split positions didn't do much for me. Neck single, one split and the two-hum middle position offer more classic sounds and versatility. Again, IMHO, YMMV. Robotechnology

Some day on a Suhr or Anderson, but not in the cards for right now. Found an amazing shop outside the city that does ultra-high end, outside of Gibson and Fender stuff. I didn't ask to play the Suhrs because it just wasn't realistic and I didn't want to do that to the owner or myself I

I played the Charvel and loved it, but I can get the Sterling Like for ~$250 less and then pick whatever pickups I want. Charvel was awful impressive and the neck feels insanely raw in a great way
