SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT IS ALSO ON ..THANKS you say the alternator is good, and you say the battery is good,on the rear of your alternator ,held on by two screws is your brushes with a regulator,so if you take off that brushes check how long they are if under half an inch long change them, but first you need to read the output ,of the alternator it should give off 14 volts,if less than that, the regulator has gone,so will not charge the battery,so you must get a new brushes as it comes with the regulator, but you must check the battery,to know if it is holding the charge, but the fact that you have the no charge light on,and not going off shows you must check that the alternator belt is ok, first. #3 · Feb 23, 2012 on some systems if the bulb fails for the charge light then the alternator doesnt get its exciter voltage so cant work, so also check this bulb hasnt failed. Gendel #4 · Feb 24, 2012 Thank u but I was thinking bout the "exiter voltage" how can I test that is it a ground signal? #5 · Feb 24, 2012 (Edited by Moderator) Daniel I don't think they meant that the no-charge light was on - I read the last bit of thier post as the 'Service Airbag Light is also on'. Not sure if that would have anything to do with your alternator/battery issues though - have you done anything to the car that might bring the SRS light on? (disconnecting the climate control panel for example, is a classic way of bringing the light on) I have yet to establish whether this light could come on at the 10 year service interval, It would be a money spinner for the dealer if that is the case because they are really the only ones that can reset it - However I dont think this is the case as I have a 2001 model and my light hasn't come on. #6 · Feb 24, 2012 QUOTE (Volvo Virgin @ Feb 24 2012, 08:22 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Daniel I don't think they meant that the no-charge light was on - I read the last bit of thier post as the 'Service Airbag Light is also on'. Well I'm thinking the srs light is coming on because of the low voltage, with the voltage being low the srs system senses a possible problem. It all happen at the same time also the door locks are acting up, clicking back and forth 5-6 times on its own. I am a certified 12volt tech and have been for over 12 years and have never had any issues like this one. Have not worked with many volvos so I'm kinda lost here. I appreciate everybody's help, thank u..... #7 · Feb 24, 2012 (Edited by Moderator) QUOTE (Volvo Virgin @ Feb 24 2012, 09:22 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Daniel I don't think they meant that the no-charge light was on - I read the last bit of thier post as the 'Service Airbag Light is also on'. For the alternator to be working you need to read 14.4 volts DC with a volmtmeter across the battery. Less than that the alt is bad. The exciter voltage should read 12.6 volts with engine stopped, which is battery voltage. #10 · Feb 27, 2012 QUOTE (draser @ Feb 25 2012, 03:57 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>OK, a few numbers. They started clicking on there own back and forth. That was the start of the problems now the lock don't work at all. If the door lock module goes bad can that effect the charging system? Or maybe there is a fuse I'm not seeing that supplys power to the door lock mod. And I'm no where near 14.4 closer to 10 and it drops quick. I'm just worried that I'm gonna get a new altenator and its not gonna fix the problem. Thanks everybody Insert Quotes Post Reply
