A brief browse through the BMW website demonstrates the wide variety of M models for 2023, each of which boasts ridiculously rapid acceleration times and power figures that might just shame some muscle cars.

So what is the deal with the M8?

To simply say that it is the athletic older brother of the other M vehicles would fail to acknowledge the performance of the other M series vehicles, so a more accurate description would be that the 2023 BMW M8 competition is the best athlete in a multi-generational family of high-performing athletes. It features the best performance and is the most expensive out of the current lineup of M models.

The M8 comes in three main variants: the Coupe, the Gran Coupe and the Convertible. Before getting to what is new for 2023, let's briefly look over some of the key features of the M8.

Power is generated by a twin-turbocharged 4.4-Liter V8 engine that is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, creating 617 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. This allows the M8 to launch to 60 mph from standstill in just 3.0 seconds and continue tearing up the asphalt until it hits its electronically limited top speed of 156 mph, which can be increased to 190 mph with the M Driver's Package upgrade for an additional $2,500.

As if the mere power and acceleration weren't enough to convince you of the newest 2023 BMW M8 Gran Coupe Competition, let's discuss what's new for 2023.

There are three main changes for 2023; five new colors, a larger screen for the infotainment unit in addition to more features.

The five new metallic colors are Frozen Pure Grey, Brooklyn Grey, Skyscraper Grey, Tanzanite Blue II and the Isle of Man Green (which is depicted in the pictures of this article). These additional paint colors come in a variety of different price points, with Isle of Man Green costing nothing extra and Frozen Pure Grey costing an additional $5,000.

Next up, the screen for the infotainment unit has been upgraded from 10.3 inches to 12.3 inches, allowing for easier access, better visibility and a more modern appearance. The infotainment unit has all the standard modern features like GPS navigation, Bluetooth connectivity and the ability to alter various parameters of the vehicle itself. Naturally Apple CarPlay is available. Furthermore, the Live Cockpit Professional digital driver's display offers BMW Maps and Personal Assistant functions integrated into the suite.

Finally, the last significant change introduced in the 2023 M8 is even more luxurious Merino leather seating, with the option for Sakhir Orange Alacantara Cloth inserts. The contrast between the bright orange Alcantara and smooth black leather is definitely set to be a popular choice. Besides this combination there are an additional 10 different luxurious trims to choose from just for the seats, this is not mentioning the different trim options for the dash.

Pricing, Availability And Things To Consider For The M8 Gran Coupe Competition

As much as we would all love to say no, the truth is that most people have to deal with a variety of important aspects besides power and performance. One of the key factors to consider when buying any new car is the price and in the case of the new 2023 BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe, the price tag is a pretty significant consideration. The 'base' model starts at $134,100 and do remember that base in this sense does not carry any negative connotations. However, if you are looking at a car like this, chances are you will most likely add a couple of extra features to make it worth its while.

Extra features like the M Driver's Package and Driving Assistance Professional Package will be very worthwhile upgrades to maximize the performance of the M8 all while improving drivability thanks to intelligent technology, however, this will increase the price tag a bit.
