The 500GB internal Hitachi Travelstar hard drive provides plenty of space to store all of your important documents, photos, files, videos, and more. The 5400RPM spin rate provides a great speed to access your applications and data from the drive, allowing you to work faster and more efficiently. This high RPM speed also helps to reduce file corruption. The Travelstar is rated to protect against mechanical head crashes and other issues. With a fast 8MB cache, you can transfer large files, including movies and graphic design projects, to the hard drive quickly. You'll be able to quickly access your most recently used files with no delay with the Travelstar. These buffers also help to protect your files and extend the life of your drive.The Travelstar hard drive is compatible with both Macs and PCs and can be installed in either. With a standard 2.5-inch form factor, the Travelstar is a great size for mobile and notebook computers. You can also use the Travelstar as the main hard disk in a small form factor PC, since these can readily accept the HTS545050B9A300 as well. The Hitachi Travelstar is an excellent hard drive to build a machine around because of a few special compatibility features. The standard SATA interface lets you use it with most laptop computers, but it also supports converter technology. You could attach an adapter to the end of the SATA jack and use the 5K500 Hitachi Travelstar with other hardware standards. If you have an external SATA enclosure, you could even use the Hitachi Travelstar as USB storage. When attached this way the host machine will simply see the 5K500 Hitachi Travelstar as though it were a regular USB hard drive.You won't have to install special software to use your Hitachi Travelstar with any operating system that supports SATA interfaces. This model can accept most types of incoming file system code. It works with NTFS for Microsoft Windows, or you can reformat the Travelstar for HFS+ if you're using OS X or MacOS Sierra. This drive is ready for the APFS standard that Apple uses as well. Linux users can format the entire 500GB capacity of the Travelstar with the ext4 system. This allows users to protect their Travelstar HDD with Unix drive permissions.With a seek time of 12 milliseconds, you can access your files at lightning-fast speeds. That makes Travelstar ideal for anyone who needs a new internal SATA drive for their game console. These drives can work as FAT32 or exFAT volumes. Many game consoles work with drives in this way, so Hitachi's engineers designed this disk for use with both systems.For further versatility, you can also partition this disk. You can have up to four primary partitions using an MBR table. If you want to create more logical drives than this, this HDD supports use of an extended partition, which can then be filled with a number of other logical drives. You can thus make a computer recognize this drive as multiple devices.

  Upgrading the Acer Aspire 5315

  The Acer Aspire 5315 came with an 80G drive, which in this day and age isn't enough, even though I mainly use the laptop for Facebook and word Processing. I knew the Acer Aspire 5315 was limited in the drive it could take, but somewhere I read that this particular drive the: Hitachi 500GB SATA Laptop Hard Drive 5400RPM HTS545050B9A300 could be encouraged to take the place of the 80G drive. One of my friends was passing through on his way to a 6 month trip around Australia, and while he was here he "Ghosted" the 80G drive and installed the Hitachi in it's place. It worked a treat. The drive performs faultlessly. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to upgrade their Acer Aspire 5315, he also upgraded the Memory to 3G.
