- Try to delete folder %TEMP%\CVU*%USERNAME%. After that my deinstall.bat worked fine. – Wernfried Domscheit Commented Mar 7, 2018 at 7:50

- Uninstall all Oracle components using the Oracle Universal Installer (OUI).
- Delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ORACLE (and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ORACLE on 64bit) key which contains registry entries for all Oracle products by using regedit.
- Delete any references to Oracle services/components in the following registry location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/. Looks for key entries that starts with “Ora” which are obviously related to Oracle.
- Reboot the workstation.
- Delete the ORACLE_BASE directory. (i.e C:\Oracle)
- Delete the directory C:\Program Files\Oracle.
- Empty the temp directory.
- Empty the recycle bin.
- That link no longer works... – Richard Ev Commented Sep 5, 2013 at 14:56
- 2 @RichardEv: I fixed the link, but it doesn't contain much more info than the above. – harrymc Commented Sep 5, 2013 at 17:30
- Remove any oracle entries in the PATH variable under Computer =>Properties => Advanced System Settings => Environment Variaiable => PATH
- In the same place remove the ORACLE_HOME entry
- I have a tip: press Ctrl + R, press: SystemPropertiesAdvanced to open dialog, preparing for edit environment variables. Remember delete more: ORACLE_UID. Look for all keyword Oracle in Registry. – Vy Do Commented May 14, 2015 at 13:51
- 1 @DoNhuVy means [winkey]+[R], to open the "Run" dialog – matt wilkie Commented Jun 4, 2015 at 16:53
- yes, I have a mistake. – Vy Do Commented Jun 5, 2015 at 15:30
Steps: Stop all Oracle services first.
- START -> RUN -> Services.msc
- Locate all Ora* services & click on STOP
- Start -> RUN -> Regedit
- Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder in the registry
- Open Software folder
- Delete the Oracle folder under Software
- Open System folder in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
- Open CurrentControlSet folder within the System folder
- Open Services
- Delete all keys related to Oracle. Every key starts with “ORA..”
- Close the regedit
- Delete ORACLE_HOME folder
- Delete the Oracle folder in Program Files
- Reboot
- +1 for the stop Ora* services ramoh, but everything else is covered by earlier answer from @harrymc. – matt wilkie Commented Jun 4, 2015 at 16:33
I came here because of this message when trying to install Oracle 11g XE, after a previously failed attempt:
"Installer has detected an already existing XE instance on this system. Installation cannot proceed"
Of course I cleaned all according to various sources, including this one, but it kept complaining. It also did not show up in the list of installed programs.
I remembered a very old utility, that was shipped once with Office 2000 I guess. It is called "Windows Installer Clean up utility" (the original download is called msicuu2.exe). Download it from a trusted source, run it with admin privileges, and you'll probably find an orphaned record for Oracle in the list.
Click [Remove], confirm the warning and proceed with the setup. It worked for me.

If you try to uninstall everything at once it will not let you. So first uninstall the program. MAKE CERTAIN TO LEAVE THE UNIVERSAL INSTALLER OPEN. Then go back and uninstall the Home.
