How to select best “shoes” for your Off-Road vehicles? “HT,AT OR MT”

Selecting the right tire for your off-road cars is never been an easy job, whether you drive on road in city or you are go off-road quite a lot or you are a crazy funs of the wild off-road ,rocks, rivers, desert…… The first thought comes to our mind is select a best tires.it matters with the driving pleasure, security and also your wallet.

Tires is not just tires for the car, even some little changes affect much more than our mind. most obviously is the grip performance, and also fuel economy, sometimes the brakes, steering control, etc., therefore, the selection of suitable tires is particularly important for vehicle driving.

Nowadays, there are hundreds of different types of tires on the market. How to pick the model that match your requirements seems very complicated, but in fact, this is the same as buying shoes, some are hiking shoes, some are basketball shoes some are office shoes…… No shoes could match all occasions, and the tires are the same. The manufacturers have developed different models according to different product requirements and different environments to meet the needs of consumers nowadays.

Today we will introduce the three most major types of tires on the market:

HT tires, AT tires and MT tires.

Let’s take a look at them.

  • HT- Highway Terrain

HT - means Highway Terrain. This tire is designed for paved roads. Most SUVs come originally equipped with H/T tires are they are usually quiet and longer tread life, comfortable driving.

  • AT- All Terrain

AT- means All Terrain,the most versatile and popular tire for on or off road use. The tread pattern is usually designed with a larger block pattern and an increased void between the blocks to allow for better grip on gravel, dirt, mud or whatever. There have also been advancements in shoulder design allowing for a more aggressive and efficient grip when off road, while still allowing for a smoother ride on the highway compared to a more aggressive tire. But the fuel economy and NVH can’t compare with HT tire.

However, quite big differences between AT tires and AT tires, some AT tires are for designed for off-road with bigger blocks deeper tread while some AT ties are more for on road, so we need also think the percentage of on or road and select the suitable brand and model.

  • MT- Mud-Terrain

MT-means Mud-Terrain. Mud terrain tires are the most aggressive and really the most specialized type of light truck tire. They are designed to take you to places a highway or all terrain tire cannot. MT tires were designed aggressive larger tread blocks and deep tread. Compared with AT and HT tires,MT tires provide the best grip on gravel, dirt, rocks, mud or other off-road places.but MT tires have some disadvantages too. They were always hard to balance and generally they can be very noisy, especially in the later life of a tire.
