Casting or mirroring gives you the flexibility of browsing and enjoying entertainment from our Netflix mobile app to any cast-compatible option you choose. See below for a list of compatible devices and steps on how to mirror or cast from an Android or Apple mobile device.
Connect to a cast-compatible device
To cast Netflix from your phone or tablet onto your TV or another cast-compatible device, see the list of options below. If your device is not listed, you can continue using the remote that comes with your device to easily browse and enjoy Netflix. If casting isn’t working as expected, follow these troubleshooting steps.
Chromecast 3rd gen or older (did not come with a physical remote)
Google Nest Hub Smart Display
Select cast-enabled Vizio TVs
Select cast-enabled Compal TVs
Note: Casting or mirroring is available on Standard or Premium plans. To check or change your plan, visit your account settings.
To use your mobile phone or tablet and cast to a compatible device:
On your mobile device, open the Netflix app. You may need to sign in first.
Tap on a profile.
In the upper right corner, tap the Cast icon
.Tap the device you want to cast to.
Tap on a show or movie to play it on your TV.
You can fast forward, rewind, pause, or change the audio or subtitle settings from your mobile device.
Connect using a video cable or adapter
To get started, follow the steps for your device.
Android phone or tablet
You can connect your Android phone or tablet to your TV or display using a video cable or adapter to watch TV shows and movies.
Note:While connecting an Android phone or tablet to a display, you may see black bars around the video while playing downloaded TV shows and movies due to the video format.
Before connecting your phone or tablet, check what port your TV or display uses:
If your TV or display uses HDMI port, you'll need to use a video cable adapter that supports video playback.
If your TV or display has a USB-C or Thunderbolt port, you can connect it using cable that came with your phone or tablet. Other USB-C and Thunderbolt cables will work with Netflix, but must support high-resolution video playback (USB version 3.1 or later).
Automatically playing the next episode isn't supported while using a video cable or adapter.
iPhone or iPad
Note: Using AirPlay to watch Netflix on a TV or other display is not supported.
You can connect your iPhone or iPad to your TV or display using a video cable or adapter to watch TV shows and movies.
Note:While connecting an iPhone or iPad to a display, you may see black bars around the video while playing downloaded TV shows and movies due to the video format.
iPhone or iPad with a Lightning port
For iPhone or iPad devices with a Lightning port, you must use a video cable adapter that works with Netflix.
If you already have a video cable adapter, you can check if it works with Netflix:
Remove all cables connected to the adapter, then connect it to your iPhone or iPad.
Go to Settings > General > About > Apple HDMI Adapter.
Check the Model Number.
If you see A1438 or A1621, your adapter is supported. Try using a different cable or HDMI port on your TV. If that doesn't work, follow Apple's steps to fix a different video connection issue.
If you don't see A1438 or A1621, your video adapter isn't supported with Netflix and is causing the issue. See which Lightning adapters Netflix supports.
iPhone or iPad with a USB-C port
Before connecting your iPhone or iPad, check what port your TV or display uses:
If your TV or display uses HDMI port, you'll need to use a video cable adapter that supports video playback, like this adapter from Apple.
If your TV or display has a USB-C or Thunderbolt port, you can connect it using cable that came with your iPhone or iPad. Other USB-C and Thunderbolt cables will work with Netflix, but must support high-resolution video playback (USB version 3.1 or later).
Automatically playing the next episode isn't supported while using a video cable or adapter.
