Hi,

Try the following.

Shut down the notebook by holding down the Shift key as you click Shutdown to temporarily prevent a hybrid boot.

Tap away at the esc key as soon as you press the power button and see if this launches the Start-up Menu. If it does, select the Bios Menu ( f10 ) from here.

Regards,

DP-K

HP Recommended Thanks for the reply David but it did not work. I just see a HP logo and a rotating circle beneath it on boot up. VOIPMaster VOIPMaster Author 3 0 0 71,113 New member

amazing that ever since the beginning of time

all computers... hp included...

had access to the bios on the startup screen

a key to press or something

and a note as to what it is...

but the hp pavilion g7 startup screen is blank...

kinda hard to boot from a cd without it...

edit: thanks for the link

i'll try the command line approach...

if it works i won't be back...

i'll be reinstalling windows

without all the hp crap on it...

and run a vm with windows 2000 or maybe 95

and use 8.1 for videos...

still doesn't change anything...

what if the computer doesn't boot into windows?

what is most interesting about the article

is all the comments underneath it...

like...

If I ever buy a computer that requires me to boot Windows to get to the firmware setup utility, it’s going back to the store...

This IS a VERY questionable design decision...

I am unable to boot into a cd. I wonder why? I imagine it’s because a certain company didn’t want me to boot into a cd that would provide me with an operating system that doesn’t have their name on it.

You may as well suggest that fuel stations are pointless because cars travel too fast to stop at them.

Is it just me or does the Win 8 Metro screen look like a pre-school toy? I keep waiting for it to tell “the cow says MOOOOOO!”

(o_0) Hmmm...try removing one stick of ram at a time, then rebooting, and see if it'll start. If that doesn't work try plugging it into an external monitor. If you still can't get picture, then your GPU on the motherboard(MB) is most likely fried, and you'll need to replace the MB. For all those that can't access bios properly, try plugging in a USB Keyboard, reboot, and start tapping the F-10 Key fast as your little finger will go. If you get in, it means you need to either reset the keyboard cable because somehow it came lose, or it's broken and needs replacing if that didn't work. Hope that helps some of you. BTW, I'm new here. I work on conputers for a living, and own a small repair shop. If I can help, I'll certainly try.
