HSN Code List: The Harmonized System for Nomenclature (HSN) was established by the World Customs Organization (WCO) in 1988. The GST HSN code includes over 5000 goods and is used by more than 150 countries. This 6-digit HSN code helps classify a wide range of commodities for tax purposes. To enhance the accuracy of classification, the customs and central excise departments have extended the HSN code by two additional digits.

According to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) notification from the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), it is necessary for taxpayers to include the GST HSN code in their tax invoices for specified products. Previously, only taxpayers with a turnover exceeding 5 crores were required to include it, but now it is mandatory for all tax invoices.

GST HSN Code List

HSN Codes are primarily utilized by dealers and traders who must use different digits of HSN codes depending on their business turnover.

• If the business turnover is less than Rs. 1.5 crores, using HSN codes is not necessary.
• If the business turnover is between Rs. 1.5 crores to Rs. 5 crores, 2-digit HSN codes should be adopted.
• If the business turnover is above Rs. 5 crores, 4-digit HSN codes should be used.
• For import and export businesses and international trades, 8-digit HSN codes must be utilized.

Step 1: Visit the official Goods and Services Tax website at https://www.gst.gov.in.

Step 2: On the homepage, navigate to the services category and click on "Search HSN Code".

Step 3: Direct Link: https://services.gst.gov.in/services/searchhsnsac.

Step 4: Enter HSN Chapter name or code, then click on the "Search" button to view the HSN Code.
