HSV VP Series 1991 - 1993

The HSV VP Series was launched in October 1991 and featured major upgrades, a re-styled body design and the introduction of six new colours. Independent Rear Suspension also became available on selected short wheelbase models. the introduction of new model names, Senator and GTS which continue to be used to the present day. While the entry-level Clubsport and luxury Senator are equipped with the 180kw V8, the high-performance GTS came standard with the 200kw version and HSV's premium brake package. LSD were standard across the range. Other vehicles in the range included the HSV VP ClubSport, HSV VP SV 91 and a range of limited edition 5th Anniversary vehicles.

Picture VP Clubsport The VP series HSV ClubSport was launched in 1991 with the same 180 kW Holden 5L V8 used in the VN ClubSport series. A special limited edition '5th Anniversary' ClubSport was launched with only 65 being produced.

Picture VP Senator The VP Senator was introduced in April 1992, effectively replacing the VN SV5000. The Senator was created in an attempt to design a vehicle that offered both luxury and performance as well as to complement the existing long-wheelbase Statesman models. Offering smoother styling compared to the HSV Clubsport and GTS models, which favoured performance rather than luxury, the Senator took advantage of the independent rear suspension which was offered on high-priced VP Commodores and Statesman/Caprices at the time and was only one of a handful of Commodore-based cars that had automatic climate control air conditioning. Other features included a leather interior, cruise control and limited slip differential. The car is available with HSV's 180kw 5.0L V8 engine seen in the ClubSport, coupled to a four-speed automatic transmission or five-speed manual.

Picture VP GTS The first HSV GTS available for purchase was released in the VP Series as the HSV VP GTS. The VP GTS was HSV's top of the range model and used the same 4 bolt mains Holden V8 that was used in the earlier model VL and VN Commodore Group A SV, using a single throttle body manifold the VP GTS produced 200kw with performance stats 0 -100km/h in 7 seconds and low 15 second 1/4 mile times achieved.
