NST NATE Has anyone here ever looked into putting w123 style hubcaps on a w126? (Or does anyone have pictures after the switch)? Really love the paint matched hub caps on the 123's and was wondering how it would look on my 420SEL. Thanks #1 · Apr 7, 2014 Has anyone here ever looked into putting w123 style hubcaps on a w126? Or you go the expensive way and get some of the uber rare 15" hubcaps from hearses and ambulances. #3 · Apr 7, 2014 Originals Image Image #4 · Apr 7, 2014 Thanks for the quick reply. I see a good deal of 15" caps hubcaps on ebay, is it the actual wheel that is hard to find/expensive? #5 · Apr 7, 2014 I've thought about it but as Roland says, I didn't think I'd be able to find the right size. #6 · Apr 7, 2014 Are these G2?

#10 · Apr 9, 2014 That's a sharp look and very clean. 1 Reply #9 · Apr 9, 2014 ^ Looks great on the coupe. I want to give it a try on my SEC. This picture sold me on the look. Can someone school me on just how they attach? Assuming I source steel wheels and the hubcaps/wheel covers, do you need to buy certain clips, etc? (Never had a car with caps, so very unfamiliar with it) Thanks

#12 · Apr 9, 2014 Isn't this what the OP meant? W123 hubcaps. These are 14" wheels, not my car but I like it.

#13 · Apr 9, 2014 This is exactly what I was looking for. Still a bit confused on how to go about accomplishing this. Really don't want to put 14" wheels on it since 15" is factory. We're the 15 inch "ambulance" hubs mentioned the metal metal ones in this picture or the flat grey in the previous images? And if so, It seems that they are not that expensive, so I'm wondering if it is the wheel and not the hubcap that is hard to find? (the 280, that is) #18 · Apr 11, 2014 There's a reason for the option code "USA Version". MB USA didn't want stripper 280S's running around with cloth interiors, roll up windows, untinted glass, and hub caps that cost 1/2 as much as the doctor's 500SEL ;) -J #19 · Apr 11, 2014 Is that what that is?.... I think they're the bomb. #20 · Apr 30, 2020 While trying to track down some images of a w126 with vintage stainless (or chrome) hubcaps on it I stumbled upon this. I’ve got a friend that has 14” steelies on his 500se, and wants fresher 14” w126 caps. I figured I have tons of vintage caps I can install to help my friend with some plastic ones. I see in here there’s confusion about tons of 15” caps on eBay. Yeah, a cap for a 14” wheel is about 15.25” in diameter. So you need to find ones that are about 16.25” in diameter for 15” steelies. I’ve got 10 of the 15” steelies from two gen2 euro cars I purchased both m103, one a 5-speed. They both came with plastic caps, actually one was missing, so I only have 7 I think. Maybe I will get one good set of plastic caps out of them. The paint / clear peels on them and they fail, just like the 14”. As for the 15” (16.25”) vintage ambulance hubcaps, yes they arehard to find cheap, but I believe they are still available from the classic center over $400/cap. I collected 5 used ones over time, including having a relative bring two on a flight from Europe. One of those is chrome over steel, while the other four are stainless. Early in the production of vintage full wheel covers (not beauty rings and dog fish caps) MB switched from chrome to stainless. The stainless obviously stands up to corrosion much better, but maybe bends more easily. anyway, I plan to put 14” vintage full face caps on my 1985 280se 5-speed. Edit: like this... the only picture I’ve found of a w126 with vintage style (incorrect for all years of w126 I assume) was this. Image Image #21 · Apr 30, 2020 I saw this one too. I quite like it. Have always loved these covers. Insert Quotes Post Reply
