World Vision began its first intervention in Ethiopia in 1971 with relief and opened Ethiopia office in 1975. Relief, rehabilitation and small community development projects dominated the decade that followed. During the 1984/85 drought, World Vision Ethiopia participated in a massive relief operation that saved the lives of millions of people. After an intensive relief and rehabilitation programme, the organization developed a new integrated development approach the objective of which was to ensure empowerment and transformational change. This approach led to the establishment of Area Development Programs (ADPs) in the 1990s that is still being implemented and continuously strengthened today.

1.Major Responsibilities

    • Advise the POO Manager in ensuring adherence to the WVE HR manual and labor law of the land in making any personnel related decisions;
    • Ensure that compensation & benefits are in line with the organization standard, policy & labor law;
    • Coordinate staff recruitment and selection process in order to ensure a timely, organized and comprehensive procedure is used to hire staff;
    • Plan & facilitate trainings including coordinating effective orientation to newly hired staff & ensure staff is exposed to the organization policies and culture;
    • Facilitate performance appraisal of an employee on 45 days probation is reported byimmediate supervisorsfive days ahead of the end of the probation period and in accordance with the WVE HR Manual and the labor law of the land;
    • Communicate WVE HR policies, procedures, and guidelines to new and existing staff as deem necessary so that the rights and responsibilities of staff become more clear and understandable;
    • Ensure that all staff information are properly filed, updated and confidentiality is maintained;
    • Handle leave management & update leave on time as per the leave guideline;
    • Ensure that all medical receipts presented by eligible staff are verify against the staff files and family list for reimbursement;
    • Conduct Reference checks and ensure that all relevant information (including original employment documents, annual leave forms, police checks, medical examination, declarations, organization policies, procedures and culture and work related guidelines, other recorded personnel actions etc); that are essential to make related decision at the HO are sent to HO P&C on time;
    • Establish HR data base for POO personnel and update accordingly;
    • Respond to staff inquiries regarding staff hiring, promotion, transfer, benefit/compensation e.t.c , in accordance with WVE personal manual and related policies;
    • Assist the POO Manager in ensuring that the CFP process is followed up effectively at all level, follow up submission and verification of the evaluation report on time, and compile & submit training needs identified by staff to H.O. P & C;
    • Advise & assist POO Managers &line managers in understanding & implementing WVE HR, Grievance, security & related policies;
    • Develop HR strategic plans with line managers/P &C interms of skill and number levels in consideration with long term and immediate staff requirements at POO level

2. Qualifications Required: MA/MBA in Human Resources, Public Administration, or Business Administration is preferred though BA with equivalent experience will be considered.

3. Work Experience and Skill required

  • 2yrs in relevant field
  • Computer skills
  • Demonstrated ability in supervision
  • Knowledge of Labour relations
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff
