Hi,i'm planning to build my first gaming pc and i don't know what to choose for it. i can have a pentium g4560 with a b250m mobo Or an i5 4570 with z87 mobo for basically the same price. which one should i get ?
also i'm planning to put my build in an old dc7700 cmt case (tight budget) with a no name 600W psu is that okay ?I'm not planning to add a gpu for now .

I would recommend the i5 simply because it's a quad-core CPU, and it has twice the cache. For the PSU, that's the only component that everyone cheaps out on that you should never cheap out on.

No, quad core would be much better than a pentium.

Well yes, but there is pretty much a dead end for upgrade path. Thinking for the future ( @CUDA_Cores might agree )

The i5 is going to give you a bit more performance upfront, but the Pentium is nice to consider if you feel pretty confident about upgrading in the near future. Personally I would choose the i5 since there are probably better platforms around the corner, so get what best serves you now.
You could take a shot with the PSU but no guarantees your parts will be safe. Absolutely consider a new one when you change the GPU.

get the Pentium G4560 + b250. The i5 is better in raw power, but with the g4560 you'll be able to re-use the motherboard, and RAM when you upgrade. DDR3 is already obsolete unless you buy used.

Dont think 1151 will be used past coffeeelake, thats hardly much of an improvement. If OP wants to upgrade, a used 4790k would be sufficient for several years.

Well, i would get the i5,even if the platform is 'obsolete'. You will still get better value, just upgrade it after when you need it (the whole platform).
The Pentium is a great budget chip, but people are starting to treat it like a god, and they need to remember it is just a dual core.
Ultra is stupid. ALWAYS.

i7-4770/4790/4770K/4790K or Xeon 1231V3 there are plenty of options for upgrade...but for a gaming rig i mean the i5-4570 is a pretty fast quad-core chip and for most user it's all you need for a very solid gaming experience.

Posted June 9, 2017 You should consider waiting for Ryzen 3. IIRC, they're supposed to come out this summer.
