Commendable
Jun 30, 2016 1 0 1,510 I'm going to buy one of these processors for a htpc I'm building. The most demanding application it will be running is an emulator and maybe some older PC games. Here is why I'm considering each processor. Pentium G4400: cheap, duel core 3.3GHz, I believe it can be overlocked, TDP 54W i3-6100t: better integrated graphics (530 950MHz), hyperthreading, 3.2GHz, TDP 35W i5-6400t: TDP 35W, quad core, 2.2GHz with turbo boost to 2.8GHz, only slightly more expensive than i3 Basically if I want to stay cheap I'll go with a pentium. But the choice between the i3 and i5 isn't so clear. Does the quad core of the i5, increased cache, and its turbo boost make up for it being 1GHz slower than the i3? Solution All of those can be overclocked on the right motherboard. A dual core can run emulators and old games fine, so even a Skylake Celeron might be an option to look at.
