Oct 5, 2013 167 0 10,710 i am planning to build a new desktop and i didn't know which cpu i buy, my choices is intel core i3 4130 and intel pentium g3220 my problem is pentium is only $60 but the i3 is $130 i'm just thinking if these two cpus is a bit similar when it comes to performance because i dont want to waste money, and in the future or maybe these coming 2014 i am buying a gtx 650 ti or maybe hd7750 Sort by date Sort by votes CTurbo

Aug 27, 2013 22,421 14 84,965 Why are these two your only choices? The i3 4130 is WAAAAAY better, but as you pointed out, it's way more expensive too. The 4130 is a dual core 3.4ghz with hyperthreading so it can process 4 threads at a time. The Pentium is a dual core 3.0ghz, but has no hyperthreading. 2 threads is all it can handle at a time. The 4130 also has vastly superior integrated graphics if that's important. Upvote 0 Downvote CTurbo

Aug 27, 2013 22,421 14 84,965 AMD has better offerings in this price range like the $80ish Athlon x4 760K, the $90ish FX 4300, and the $120 FX 6300 Upvote 1 Downvote WaSquids

Oct 23, 2013 175 0 10,710 For the price point i agree with Cturbo, a 760k(fm2) or a 6300(am3+) Both oc very well with the right boards(the i3 is dual core&locked). Upvote 0 Downvote John Sebastian

Aug 27, 2013 22,421 14 84,965 We don't know a whole lot about Karevi yet. You can get a fm2+ motherboard and Athlon x4 760k now, and upgrade to Kaveri next year when they come out. Upvote 0 Downvote M

Dec 6, 2013 1 0 10,510 Think about G3420 - it's just a little bit more expensive and it supports 1600MHz DDR3 RAM opposite to g3220 which supports only 1333MHz DIMMs... Upvote 0 Downvote Brunostako

Dec 16, 2013 2,348 1 12,960 First of all, what are you going to do in your PC. Talking about your intel choices, the single-thread performance of the i3 is only 13% more than the pentium, the multi-thread performance of the i3 is 31% more than the pentium (all info from CPU World). The Hyper-threading feature not always gives you a performance increase. For every day usage like office, internet and multimedia you won't notice the difference. I don't know how many games really use 4 threads, but i think 2 quite powerful cores are enough for casual gaming. If you choose the pentium over the i3 you'll be sacrificing hyper-threading and quick sync (the GPU in the i3 is more powerful than the one in the pentium, but you're not using it). Now talking about AMD, you can go with the 760K or 750K. Both are great CPUs (not APUs) for every day and gaming and they are cheaper than the core i3. Pair them with a HD7750 and the new FM2+ motherboards and your good to go. Also you will be ready to upgrade to kaveri next year. Saludos desde México. Upvote 1 Downvote L
